Staff Age Requirements

Have you ever tried to apply for a staff position and were rejected due to your age?



For example, you're about to apply for a administrator position, but you figure out there's an age restriction, and you're not old enough. I personally believe it's ignorant. Sure, get an 18 year old to fill the position, but if that big 18 isn't nearly as mature or qualified as the 15 year old, then good luck with the old and wise staff member.

Anyways, its up to the admin to hire whoever he/she wants. I dont judge a person wanting an older crowd on staff. In fact (personally) I feel more comfortable being involved with forums where all the staff arent 12 year olds.

A young age can also be positive, People often think that I'm older than I am, so when they find out I'm quite young my maturity is highlighted. This can work well when getting a staff position.



In my opinion people employers that look for age and not maturity show inexperience.

To be perfectly honest I fib about things such as that, I am fourteen, yet I am heavily superior in intelligence to a good portion of the much older internet civilians. I have been downgraded in the past for my age but I honestly feel that numerous forget of my age when they see what I can offer.

16 is the borderline for me. I would prefer at least 17 years old. I feel awkward when someone considerably younger than me makes the rules that I need to follow. Plus a younger admin probably hasn't the experience of a older one.

First mod position at 15. Rose to senior mod two months after. First admin at 16. Co-owned two boards at 16.5. Both boards now with 300k posts between them.



Age isn't everything, I'm more mature and have better judgment than the admins of the first board I modded on.

I won't hire people under 13 any more, they usually don't stay interested for long so it's a bad idea. Obviously you do get exceptions but that's the case the majority of the time.

You would expect people to be honest, especially if they are wanting to join the staff.

I usually only hire people Ive gotten to know. Their age usually has nothing to do with anything but I tend to favor a fellow grown up.

Since I'm young, you'll bet I'm against age requirements, but that's beside the point. Even if I was older, it wouldn't matter. I look at it as Nebulous stated in post # 13. Unless you're just hiring some random person, I would believe that they would have contributed to the community already and have displayed their qualifications, including maturity, and judgement may be made without even knowing their age. It's something that may arise eventually, but it shouldn't dictate their worthiness of staying on staff.



I look at it like this. You have me, regular 15 year old who has been into forums for about two and half years now, and you have a 45 year old, my dad. Who would you hire? The 15 year old, or the 45 year old? Now, the 45 year old sounds a lot better, but he may know nothing about forums. Indeed, he knows nothing about forums, and probably doesn't even know what a forum is. However, without knowing or really putting their experience to the test, you won't know. So the 15 year old, representing myself, who has years of experience, knows almost everything about forums any staff member needs to know, and feels comfortable doing what they like to do. Who'd you hire? Knowing all their experience and knowledge in comparison to one another, I'd pick the 15 year old, but if I hadn't known either's qualifications, then I would lean towards the 45 year old.



Until you know their experience and how they perform, how can you reject their application just because you were born on a certain year?

The only thing you need to focus on is maturity not age. Age is a really useless piece of info in the hiring process as it's a easy way for lazy people to judge your abilities as a potential staff member. There is plenty of old people who are downright childish so being an adult doesn't mean that they won't be a childish immature one.
