Stat Bumps

Why do people bump their advert topics with just statistics (or even worse, just the word bump)?



How does letting people know you have (for example) 78 members and 5234 posts make them want to join your forum?

It doesn't. People are just to lazy to think of something creative. When I bump an advertising topic, I add a thread or two that has been popular. Stats alone aren't enough to bring members.

I don't get it either. No one cares what your board's stats are unless you are owner, admin, staff or possibly member. That's it. Why would we care about the stats when we have no part in making them what they are at that moment in time?

I look at it in the way that people can see how many posts are being made and how regulary people are joining.

While that maybe true, it doesn't say how good a board is or anything just how active it is. I wouldn't join and stay active at something merely on the grounds that it was active.

Hm... I am guilty with this since I think people are more inclined to join a forum if it has good stats. But after reading this I guess I'll put more thought into more content on it.

Just when I thought that stat bumps were frowned upon, I got a warning from one forum telling me to stop with the invitations as they called them and to start posting my forum's stats.. Lol

That's weird. o.0 And I used to mainly just either do the word 'bump' or post up stats. Now, I make sure I have a bit to include in my thread updates more often now a days.

A successful forum (IMO) is forever evolving. Post count and member count don't matter to me. It's the content and the atmosphere of the forum that will get me to join. It also has to do with how the admin advertises the forum. If the admin gives a great intro listing reasons for joining then I would check it out. If the admin gives little or has a could care less if you join or not intro then I would never check it out. Bottom line (IMO) is it's first impressions that people remember about any forum or admin.

Well whenever someone joins my forum, I give them a hearty welcome and I have a chatbox and a money system, so I don't know what could be missing..

Who says anything is missing? Your forum is limited to gamers and a certain age group. Not everyone, like myself, is into that type of forum. You also have to realize that the summer months are slow for all forums. People are spending more time outside and are on holiday. Have patience and keep promoting.
