What superstitions do you know?

Which ones do you believe?

How do you think some superstitions started?

I don't believe in superstitions, that's bad luck :p

No, in all seriousness, people have some outlandish superstitions and I don't understand them at all. Just be you, be happy, live your life. Bad things happen to everyone, there isn't some arbitrary action that's going to bring it on.

I know all the main ones, such as Knocking on Wood, Throwing Salt Over Your Shoulder, Walking Under a Ladder, Broken Mirror, Step on a Crack, Break Your Mother’s Back, Friday the 13th, Black Cats, Fingers Crossed ...and some more.

I believe that the world will end in our lifetime

I was so convinced that it would end in 2012, that on the day in question, I unplugged everything, boxed it up, sat down and waited

sadly it didn't happen and I was disappointed.

the other one I hear all the time is the one about the bride not seeing the husband before they get married

Seems like every two or three years somebody comes up with a doomsday prediction. In fact, every day is a "doomsday" for someone. I pretty much cling to the notion that "No one knows the day or the time." :)

I think superstition is a load of bullfrog and it is one of my pet hates. My father was superstitious and we would be punished if we did something he deemed unlucky or mocked his beliefs. This has coloured my views on superstition. If you really want to witness my Irish temper, just try to stop me doing something 'because it's unlucky' or insist I perform a ritual to break the bad luck you think I'll get.

I knock on wood just to be safe! 😋
Not superstitious, but - - Occasionally I have to take a quick look around for some real wood to knock on! (EVERYTHING'S plastic these days )

In some African countries it’s good luck if a lizard runs across your feet

In Africa, people who suffer from albinism get murdered for their body parts because people believe their bones are magical and grant wishes.
In Malawi, in the continent’s southeast, the limbs of a person with albinism are used in rituals as they are thought to have magical powers that bring wealth and good luck. They fetch a high price when sold to witch doctors, and many still hold the belief that the bones of a person with albinism are made of gold.

There is TONS of lizards around my house. None of them ran across my feet yet. They're too fast and zoom in the other direction at 100 miles an hour at the sight of any human.

I love lizards.

I love lizards.

Me too, they are cute.

I keep a small garbage can in the backyard and I had to stop leaving it against the wall because lizards would fall in there and cant get out. They crawl on the house (where there is grip) but the garbage can is smooth plastic and they slip in there and can't climb out.

Little lizards are cute; BUT, you just can't trust reptiles. I'll bet that thing would gobble your cockatiels up in a flash!
