Are some people addicted to texting? Could this be something that is diagnosed?

I believe so.. I personally dont text that much but I have friends who do. Ive actually had people ignore my calls and then text me after I called them saying Text it.. What did you want?

WTF?

Its funny going out to eat with these people. They will set their phone on the table next to their food and constantly staring down at it every few seconds just waiting for their phone to light up.

Some psychiatrists are diagnosing obsessive texting as a mental illness. According to an article in the ‘American Journal of Psychiatry’, texting too much during the day could probably cause you to develop a texting addiction.

There are four signs of addiction to texting:

Excessive use (neglect day to day activities)

Withdrawal ( feeling depressed when not accessible)

Tolerance (over texting)

Negative repercussion ( social isolation)

Weird. The more dangerous part is texting while driving. That is an epic fail waiting to happen...

Well I guess anything could become an addiction. There are definitely some people who seem almost obsessed in some way with texting.

I myself prefer written communication, but without a keyboard where I can use all my fingers simultaneously, this is too tedious.

I text lots, but I don't think that I'm addicted. there are probably some people that could be said to be addicted, but as long as their phones don't get cut off, they should be all right.

what I meant was as long as texting doesn't take over their lives completely and prevent them from getting and keeping a job. getting cut off means that you didn't pay your bill and you can't use your phone anymore.
