So if we are going to go by your interpretation then you must agree anytime a child is hurt for any reason while under a parents care it will be neglect and all parents should be punished when it happens.

Please read again the definition of negligent-homicide. We're not talking here in this thread about children getting hurt. We are talking about children who die due to parental neglect like this toddler did.

of course accidents happen and kids will hurt themselves, but if the parents had something to do with it then that accident becomes neglect due to the parent's actions, or lack thereof...
liberty, it's funny how you don't blame these parents with neglect yet you blame the parent of the adult that allegedly did the sandy hook shooting... you can't have it both ways, pick a lane and ride...

What we have here is a double standard with people. If the child had drowned in a pool from good parents with no history of neglect who made a mistake and say did not close the sliding glass door and got distracted for a minute then most people would be sad for the parents and saying what a tragedy. But add the word gun in that scenario and oh my god!!!!!! Lock those parents up pronto because they must be horrible people.

Pretty much. Although I'd probably be saying that people with a pool should have a fence around it with a locked gate. At least have the patio beyond the sliding glass door surrounded by plastic baby blocker type barricades (my grandparents had a setup like that when I was little).

I knew you were going to mention the pool safety fences. LOL! Have installed many of them they are great to have. Then lets say the parents forgot to re-secure a section of them in my above scenario just after using the pool.

I dunno. Hopefully they don't forget to do that since their baby's life is at stake here.

Off course we all hope parents do not do such things. But sad mistakes like that do happen and will continue to happen unfortunately.

how can you compare both of them as the same when weapons are meant to kill, pools aren't...
the gun owner put a unlocked gun where children are or put a child where a unlock and loaded gun is, as well as in the kid's reach... therefor preventable because the gun owner didn't take precaution and security measures to prevent the accident to happen, which makes it neglect... it's pretty simple, and pretty much any cop, judge or prosecutor would agree...

then they shouldn't leave loaded guns around children
------------------------------------------------------------------
I have to pipe in here... the swimming pool comparison is kind of dumb.
Swimming pools are not built for the purpose of killing, they are not designed to kill, a gun however is built for the purpose of killing, and therefore can not be compared in anyway to accidental drownings vs a kid blowing his own head off.

Why does what the object do matter when both can kill. What about a child getting into a cabinet and drinking or eating rat poison using the same scenarios above minus the pool? That is designed to kill.

that would be neglect too and the "parent" should be charged for not protecting their child from death... it's the parents responsibility to not let their child get to dangerous thing that could hurt/kill them, it's not the child's duty to avoid death...
