I used to troll but now I care about my reputation.
I think the best way of dealing with trolls isn't to warn them or ban them or put them on moderation queue, but to just delete the offending posts quickly, and do nothing else. No communication. They'll get bored of the lack of reaction from staff and users, since staff just delete the posts without comment, and the users don't even get to see them. They'll either get bored and leave or stop the troll posts.
Obviously if they started spamming posts uncontrollably then you would have to ban them, but that's different from trolling.
