Hey everyone, it saddens me to report that two more awesome sites have closed. Advertise-Forums and Entertainment-Hub. This is nuts. I suppose there are people that really are losing interest in foruming (and I don't blame them)... I'm just at a loss for words, right now. Practically in shock. Well, this makes me more determined than ever to keep my own forum (Marie 1988) open. How do you guys feel about this?

Eh, it's happening all over nowadays.

Yeah, they say that nothing lasts forever, and the same holds true for forums as well. Wasn't someone saying on FA or something like that at one time that the average lifespan of a forum is five years or something? I remember seeing that somewhere, but I can't remember what forum it was on though.

Advertise Forums offline message says:

AF Is Currently Down For Maintenance, We Will Be Back Soon.

Even if they did close, things happen. Im sure the admins have the reason for doing so and people should respect that. Not everything lasts forever.

Add Marie 1988 to the list. I totally lost interest, and I mean seriously lost interest, in owning a forum. Maybe I just wanted to own a forum to test out different softwares... but I think I lost interest because of it being too much of a competition and a hassle after a while. I didn't want to tdo this, but I organized my priorities and my top priority is my real world job at the moment.

To be honest most people are just growing out of foruming altogether. Life happens, people lose interest, etc. But I think we should simply enjoy these forums while they last.

I was discouraged so I simply got rid of my forum. I tried to revive it but all my regulars were gone. I'm happy for the fact that nearly all there enjoyed being there. That means I at least completed one of my missions.

So I think members who are grieving over dead/deleted/closed forums should think about all the fun they had instead of all the fun they won't continue to have. You'll feel better and less discouraged about foruming.

People get older, lose interest, life takes over, more important things to do. I only run Movie Discussions, don't have to do much though because it's fairly active.

There's too many forums around now days to start a new one, everything has been done apart from a few things, your best bet is to just join and post on a board, instead of creating one and when you get bored with it, close it and let people who have put their time into it down.

That's just my thoughts on the matter.

I think that's why I finally gave up on Marie 1988. I have health problems, loads of dr appointments coming up in 2010, and at the same time, I think I was just basically losing interest in it. I am not a fan of forum contests by any means... in fact, one site I'm a member of doesn't hold any at all, and that's fine with me, although most of the members of that particular forum are adults, and almost all of them have daytime jobs and things like that, so yeah. I think the Marie 1988 that I had on advanced hosting was a lot more successful than the Marie 1988 I had on Zetaboards, so really, I too feel like I accomplished something decent for a change. We had 65 members at one time and I don't know how many posts. But I lost interest, and then tried reviving it a month or so later, but no one else was interested anymore, so I finally gave up for a while. But now I think I have totally given up. I have decided that if I want to run a forum so badly, or help run one, I would just find one where there was an administrator or moderator position available, and just help that person with their forum.
