My girlfriend has been a vegetarian for years; she has asked me to try giving up meat for a little bit, to show that I do care/respect her. I tend to try not to eat meat around her, seems rude. But I said I'd give it a try. Today was my first day, and I craved bacon. Unfortunate!

For breakfast, I just had a banana.

Lunch, vegetarian pizza, with mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and onions.

Supper, a veggie sub, fully loaded with so many veggies and cheese with ranch.

I think even a week of no meat could do my good. Might make me a bit healthier.. Seeing as I'm always in town, and sometimes grabbing McDonalds or equivalent is cheaper than the gas to drive home.Thoughts?

Good luck to you on this. I remember when my sister went Veggie on us for a bit. Think it sorta bugged my mom a little at times. Lol.

Oh, it still bugs her parents. But for them, because she has been for so long, they've accepted it. I guess if I want to see a future with her, I better be somewhat accommodating, and at least not eat meat around her.

Yeah, but she has to accept you'll eat meat.

She does, and she doesn't make me not around her. She thinks its silly I don't with her. I don't know why, I just feel really bad around her.

Those two quotes seem to contradict each other.

Anyway, there is lots of ways to show a person you care and respect them.

It was more of a bet, to see if I could. She didn't care either way whether or not I did or not. I wanted to prove I could, I suppose.

After you prove that you can, you should get her to eat meat so she can prove that she cares and respects your diet.

I told her, she's a vegetarian, I'm basically a carnivore, couldn't we just meet a middle ground and be omnivores? She didn't buy it..

So you're willing to change for her but she isnt for you.. Hmm, seems like you are the bigger person in the relationship

This is one of those things it doesn't go the reverse. She does so many other things to make me happy the past few months, it's really the least I can do, at least prove I'm willing to do something like this for her.

I do not eat red meat (pork or beef) / dairy, not because it was a choice for me but because I had to. For me it was two reasons - health and religious reasons. If the reason is strong enough you will have no problem sticking to a diet.

It takes a while to get used to a change in diet, so I wouldn't advise a radical change all of a sudden. Especially if your body is not used to the lack of vitamins you would normally receive. For example, I had a friend who was a strong meat-eater and decided to vegetarian and her hair started falling out (which is very common for such a radical change in diet).

I could probably go without meat for a week, but that would be it. I love it too much to give it up completely.

Think a week will make much effect? And I've heard similar things.

Me too. I love bacon.

So what is today? Day 2?

Today, I managed to have another Subway sub for breakfast; egg, cheese, and veggies, with a cream of mushroom soup.

Lunch, Steamed rice, yogurt.

Supper, nothing really yet. Had some veggies.. But it's really hard when you're 20 minutes from home, in town. I can't imagine this being a daily thing.

I feel Subway is going to be my best friend for the next few days.

Sorry but I wouldn't change what I eat for anyone. To each their own but nobody is going to tell me what I can or cannot eat.
