Two unidentified Salem Middle School students in Greensburg, Pennsylvania have been charged under the state's new sexting law, which bans teens from sending private text messages of a sexual nature.

Greensburg Police Detective Sgt. Henry Fontana told CBS Pittsburgh: “A 13-year-old girl took a photo. She was naked from the waist up, took a picture of herself and sent it to a 14-year-old boy at his request.

The boy deleted the photo, but the girl’s mother found the photo on her daughter's phone and the called police on her child, reports CBS Pittsburgh.

Under the new law, minors over the age of 12 charged for the first time will get a citation, but a second offense will result in a misdemeanor charge.

Felony child pornography laws could still apply, depending on the intent

Okay. The boy deleted the picture. The girl's mother finds the picture on her daughter's phone. The mother then calls the police on her daughter.

Why the hell did the mother call the police? Why didn't the mother just take away cell phone and computer privileges? Why didn't the mother explain to her daughter that she COULD be charged if this was found out? I know these answers: The mother is a bad parent!

What are your thoughts on what the mother did?

That's a pretty awkward law...

I really wouldn't have expected anyone to call the police on their children because of it o.O

Looks like the parent of the daughter saw it as a way of avoiding the job of being a parent. I mean why bother disciplining your child when the police are more then willing to do it for you? I think police have bigger things to deal with then this when it's obvious that this is a parenting issue and not a police one.

I think the phone being taken away and/or a good smack on the ass would probably be enough to get this kid from ever taking a nude photo of herself.

You could just pull out a gun and put a bullet through the phone then put the video of it on Youtube.
