Do you feel that the levels of violence portrayed in the media is having a negative effect on our society? Why or why not?

What sort of media are we talking about here? Newspapers? Movies? Games? Discovery Channel?

about 30 years ago Marvin Gaye was pretty much the (lmao [dirtiest] well he's not even dirty, so whatever why I am I even saying this) artist. now someone like Lil' Wayne is not even the person who has the most cuss words in one song. at least in my opinion lol

see what difference there is in just 30 years

we've lost all our morals

I played (and still own) Resident Evil 4 for my Playstation 2 last year(I was 14), it had no adverse effects on me, it also got me interested in horror more.

I'm not really fond of television shows like, Family Guy and such, way too violent and profane.

I don't think they have a negative effect (after a brief moment of consideration that made me smile

).

You see, the kids who see all this extremely violent stuff probably don't have the stamina to actually re-enact it

if you can handle it its good, some people just can not handle it, they have no grip on reality but I dont think we should remove it

Because they're all so obese from sitting around paying attention to media?

The only form of media I would truly lay blame to is the news. It's the only form of media that's fiction and tries to pass itself off as reality. While the events spoken about in the news may very well be true but they paint a false picture of the world we live in because they make a point of magnifying the bad that people do while minimizing and hiding the good in this world for the most part. You watch the news long enough and you will start thinking the world is as terrible as it looks on the news but if you go out and about where you live well you see a very different picture where there is as much good as bad in this world.

Movies and video games on the other hand never make any attempt to make you think they are ever remotely real at all. Their very nature makes it clear they are a work of fiction and should be treated as such. Anyone getting ideas as to how to conduct themselves in life through movies and games are likely suffering from mental issues which is the real cause of their violent acts rather then the movies and games themselves.

Well, I'm not against Violence in Media, some Shows show some violence to come up with a comical status, some are depicting violence as an element of horror.
I blame the consumer for being so sensitive to violence, if You can't bare violence in tv shows, Games... watch or play something else non violent.

I agree 100% with the fact that News are creating bunch of stereotypes about the world.

To be honest I do think there is a greater propensity for violence in some forms of media such as movies and video games and there are studies to show that the level of violence has increased over the years. And there is something Draconian about the way it is portrayed (considering it is easier to depict gratuitous violence than sexuality, for example).

The effect may be variable, one person may be able to tolerate violence while another individual is completely desensitized. Most studies will say it is not healthy - especially for young people - to consume violent forms of media. Even with the data, to say it is completely bad for society would be a big assumption.
