Some forums are very open with who they ban and for whatever reason, they put up a section called the "Wall of Shame." This section lists every single banned user.

What are your thoughts on this? Is it unnecessary?

Total childish bullshit.

It's not necessary at all. That information needs to stay between the member and the staff who banned them.

Kinda reminds me of the:
**For your entertainment - - Public Executions at High Noon in the Town Square every Saturday.........Come One, Come All!** mentality.

I've learned that public humiliation on forums just feeds the negativity and promotes further drama. I'm of the mind that if you ignore things, most of those abusive members will be quiet and drive far away, like the title of an old Deftones song.

Well, I don't think for sites like these there should be one but for those that are dedicated to writing/roleplay of writing yeah because there are a lot of wackos on those types of sites which I'm a member of. You have people who really aren't interested in writing so much as they are looking for online hookups or trying to solicit pictures, etc from other members or just be genuine perverts. In that aspect, I'm okay with seeing a wall of shame.

If you can't be a good example, then you deserve to be a horrible warning..

That said, on my forum, I don't do this, because it is an adult forum, but we did do this on my brother's forum.

We didn't go crazy with it though.. we just had a list of users and a brief explanation of what they did.. so it would be like..

Name: User
Other Names (if applicable): User 2-12 ( This user had 12 different accounts)
Offense(s): Underaged user originally banned due to COPPA, Multiple Accounts, Ban Evasion
Ban or Suspension?: Ban
Duration: Permanent.

And that would be it.

It wouldn't be posted publicly, only in the areas where those that were suspended or users in conflict can explain themselves.. and away from the rest of the forum.

There were also privacy rules in place and those who had access to that area weren't allowed to discuss anything in that area outside of it.

A banned account should just be banned and that's the end of the story. If people ask, it can be a private reason, otherwise it's not worth bringing up.
