How do you feel about war and all the different aspects of it? :|

For those who've had personal experiences:
  • Were you in the military?
  • Did you go to war? What was it like?
  • How did war change you?
  • During your service, can you recall times when you were afraid?
  • What are your strongest memories from your time in the military?
  • What lessons did you learn from this time in your life?

i volunteered twice during the vietnam era, first in 1973 and again in 1978 , but the navy couldn't offer me a contract i was willing to sign. i come from a family of regular reservists, mostly architects and electrical engineers, who volunteered when there was any kind of a shoot or would do at least three years even if there wasn't a war.

when i was young, eisenhower and kennedy spoke of peacetime projections of american military technology for constructive, rather than destructive, purposes. we were going under the oceans and into outer space, building habitat in environments previously uninhabitable. the idea of being an aquanaut/astronaut when i grew up was certainly my biggest dream.

there was no way that i was going to ride backseat in a tomcat shooting at little brown people with sophisticated weaponry to make the ground safe for the carlysle group partners to come in and exploit their natural resources and slave labor population.

war only profits the people who finance them and give the orders. everybody else loses. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3_EXqJ8f-0&feature=player_detailpage

War is a necessary evil. Humanity doesn't have the capacity at this point in time to work out it's differences peacefully.

I am in the US Air Force. I did not go to war. My career field is very small and we're not needed as much overseas as we are at home. Only one or two of us go every few months. It's very rare. War hasn't changed me even though I see and do more involving war than a civilian would ever do. I'm rarely afraid.
