Somehow, that annoying piece of crap got back on my machine.

Fortunately, Spybot can kill it, but you have to run the scan, then reboot, and run it again.

It may help to run the scanner in "Safe Mode" so the slimeware can't run and hide.

"Webcake", in case you don't know, is a type of Adware that feeds off Google Analytics, it looks for keywords on whatever page you're looking at, and links those key words with ADS.

One, it slows down your machine.

Two, it slows down your browser.

Three, it, and the terrible G-word thing, track every move you make on the web.

It can come in during various updates, or even from an ad on a webpage. It is not critical to the operation of your browser and is only annoying. Removing it doesn't hurt anything.

I've had it a couple of times before too. A lot less annoying to get rid of then let's say the chatzum malware.

Yeah, any of those "search bars"/browser helper things like the Ask bar can be tough to remove.

And I used to work with a Network Admin who had THREE of them on his machine, every time anything like Realplayer or Flash wanted to update something, he let it do it with all the "suggested add ons" in place because he didn't want to babysit the install.

After two different versions of "weatherbug" and some sort of traffic alert thing and God knows what else bogged his machine down to where it took forever to do anything he finally woke up and had one of the desktop guys purge at least some of that stuff off his machine.

I know he had the Ask and Yahoo tool bars on his browser, and I think he had one other one that was open all the time.
