Do you own a whole house generator? With storms happening now throughout the US, maybe it's time to consider one if your power goes out often?

We used to own a portable generator, but I couldn't get it started, and it needed to be left outside...and we had to have fresh gas on hand to get it running. It was a pain during outages, but we brought it with us to the new house, which was stupid. We used it once and then ended up getting a whole house generator. My house has a well and septic that both rely on electricity, so having a system that automatically switched over was the smart move for us. We have to have yearly maintenance on it and today we're getting the oil changed which will be about $275. ow. But it's worth having it when the power goes out. Oh, and our entire house is not on it...just the necessities.

My parents do. It has come in handy for them countless times. I could see splurging on a Generac at some point.

Please take the leap when you get the money to do so!! Especially if your area is prone to storm outages, because it's worth it to know that the things in your fridge will not go bad and your pipes won't freeze in the winter because the heat can remain on.

We had a big ice storm when we first moved to our current house, and the power was out for a day. Since then it hasn't been very long, but you never know, and winter is probably the most concerning time when it's cold out and we want heat.

When we move after my husband retires, we definitely will be investing in another Generac.

I don't. We dont have a lot of storms or natural disasters where I live but that doesn't mean were immune from them.
