I can't help thinking that some folks have no bloody idea just what panic, shock and great stress can actually make a person do.
Unless you have actually been in that situation yourself, it's far too easy to say what you would or wouldn't do and start casting aspersions. And even if you have been in that situation, remember that everyone reacts differently.
Thankfully the grand child is ok and that is the main thing.

If he was sleeping, he was sleeping, maybe she forgot about him because she hadn't seen him the entire day, don't call her an idiot, she panicked dammit, she gathered everything she could and perhaps from her age or out of the panic she forgot him.
Terrible story...just so sad...
You guys, this is where you have to use common sense. Pets can be replaced. Sure they may not have the same personality, traits whatever your former pet had, and yes they are expensive, but they CAN be replaced. Children can't. Personally, I think the woman was a bit of an idiot for grabbing the pets and not the kids. It's sad really.
It still looks like some of you lot have not taken on board the possibility that panic, fear, stress and shock can and do make people act in a way that ordinarily they would not.
Some folks in the safety of their homes sat in front of their computers seem to calmly pronounce what they themselves would have done in a given situation, when in fact no one actually knows how they would react given an emergency and under that same set of circumstances.
It's all too easy to call the lady in question an idiot or an unfit grand mother, without actually knowing the facts.
Before making pronouncements of what you have no experience of, I suggest you actually stop and think objectively about what has happened and see if you can understand why such a situation can lead to what appears to be negligence when in fact it's quite possible that it was nothing of the kind and was as a result of the frightening situation that this poor lady found herself in.
I'm not saying for one moment this is what happened. However, I at least remain open to the possibility that this sort of behaviour can and does happen given extreme situations. Therefore, far be it from me to start casting aspersions upon a lady I don't know and a situation that I have not been in myself.
Understanding and compassion are all to easy to dismiss when sat in total safety.

I am pretty sure if that grandson died in that fire, no one would be giving her any sympathy.
I wonder how many are going to keep giving her sympathy when they actually read the article and notice there was also a son of hers in that house that she had no trouble remembering was there but just couldn't remember to save that grandson.

I am very young, 12 years old in fact. But this is absolutely disgraceful. She should be shot for leaving her Grandson. About 2 months ago, i was with my sister, niece and nephew. My sister is 21 and my nephew is 3, almost 4. Suddenly, he wrestled away from her hand and run into a busy road. Without thinking, i run after him, and jumped in front of a moving car to save his life. I broke a leg and an arm, and sustained severe head injuries, actually, three big scars still remain on my head. I would do anything to save any of my family, and that's what this woman should have done. Disgraceful.
