Do you think it's acceptable for women to be in the military? Why/why not?

For sure, women can serve this country with the same intensity that men can. I don't see why they wouldn't be allowed. Same with homosexuals.

Well the Royal Marines actually dont let the women join up, they believe they cannot perform as good as a man. Plus i think its tradition.

I believe that a woman should have a place in the military, It's very sexist not to

Seeing as i am currently in the military and judging from experience with working with female sailors. They do the same jobs that men do and the jobs that men do in the Navy aren't easy at all. In fact, there have been some instances where women have done jobs better than men. For example, In the US Navy there is a job called Gunners mate. We we have some pretty large sized weapons that they carry around and do things with...Well TRUE STORY, there was this guy on my ship who was supposed to be taking the guns from the maindeck down to the Armory. Well he was having some trouble carrying two at a time...this girl smaller than he was...took both weapons from him, and carried them the rest of the way...with no problem....

Women can do just as much as men can these days, I actually enjoy being in the Navy with women, it also keeps things interesting because 300+ men at sea for 8 months is not good...throw some women in there...

Yes, but I do not believe they belong in combat. I have no problem with them working in the Military in the green zone, but as far as the red zone goes, leave it to the men. That way gender will not play a role in a difficult situation. Lets say a girl is left behind and the males feel since she is a lady they have to go back and help her get out of danger, even though it risks all of their lives? Bad idea, but here me out.

Oh yeah and found out that in the last few years the Royal Navy granted women the the rights to go out to sea, they were allowed to join as reps but not as proper sailors. But they have been allowed in the Army and RAF for along time.

Women are just as good as men in battle....

So your saying that in a combat situation its okay to leave a male behind.

That's retarded! You gotta go get him too. Every soldier or marine or sailor or whoever, is trained on how to survive on his own, if he or she is unexpectedly separated from his or her own unit. This is 2009 not 1859. There have been instances where the women in the unit have gone back to save male soldiers...its all about who's capable and who is available.

I don't know whether its a fear that women are too prissy to be soldiers, but there are soldiers out here who are really prissy but will get dirty to get the job done. Some of the best leaders are women.

On my ship I am a supervisor to 6 cooks directly. 3 of which are men and two are female. I give the females the same jobs as i do men. if there is a 50 gallon mixing bowl that needs to be removed for cleaning and I already have three males doing something....the job is left to the females, granted i will relieve one male to help...ITS A BiG miXING boWl!

I just say that women have the right to be in any situation that a male can be in.

this is a good topic.... +2 for Nebulous!

Hells YEAH women should be allowed in the military! Saying they can't is like saying that men can't be hairdressers, or men can't be a stay-at-home dad. I actually want to join the military one day! If anyone was actually paying attention to the newspapers about five years ago... ANyone remember the big kerfuffle made over the first Canadian woman who died in Afghanistan or whereever the hell they were five years ago? I was in cadets with her little sister! There is nothing wrong with women in the military.
