Is working 40 hours a week closer to freedom or slavery?

Not only are we calculating the actual work week of 40 hours, but we often don't take into account the commute (unless you're WFH). Not to mention the fact that some people can't even have a livable wage unless they work two jobs, so a lot of people are working way more than 40 hours. I think it's time to consider and implement at least a 32 hour work week.

There's nothing wrong with working 40 hours a week provided there is ample time for respite in between. Working 40 hours a week every week is a great way to burnout, but having a break, be it a couple of days away or a couple of weeks away to relax and recharge ensures a more productive workforce and a happier overall person.
