What is your worst forum experience?

Just a simple question, you can share your experiences being a staff member on a forum or just being a regular member on a forum..

Being stalked by the "Psycho From Hell." It ended when she literally died.

I was once a mod on a gaming forum. The forum was exploding and everything was going great until one day the owner decided to take it down. Me and the other mods later found out he was in it for the money from the beginning :(

Being a member on a place called the Nexus Forums.

It was good at first, but the mods there are now out of control.

It's a long story but I'll try to keep it as short as possible. She befriended me on another forum. At first, she seemed very nice. Other members PM'd me warning me about her but, at that point, I ignored the warnings because she had done nothing to me. Then it started. She would email me 20 times a day (that's no exaggeration). She expected an immediate response from every email. When she didn't get one, she'd start sending emails like: "If you keep ignoring me, you'll be very sorry." She told me who I could and could not associate with on the forum. She took emails from me and doctored them to make it look like I was saying nasty things about friends I had on that forum. She sent those doctored up emails to my friends in hope of breaking up any friendships I had. Thank goodness my friends knew better than to even think I would say such nasty things about them. It got so bad that I told her to leave me alone. That started the stalking ball rolling. I left that forum to get away from her.

I joined another forum and she followed me there. Any avatar I used, she would change hers to the same one. I had posted a picture of myself (which I will NEVER do again), and she nicked my picture. I found out that she was creating new accounts on other forums using MY picture and pretending to be me. I sent her an email and told her to delete my picture and leave me the hell alone. Her response: "Make me." I had to hire an attorney and he sent her a cease and desist order. It cost me $200 for the attorney but she stopped. Then, she had the freakin' nerve to PM me and ask me to give her another chance to be my friend. She told me she suffered from depression and was seeing a shrink. She also said she was on a bunch of medications. I never replied and blocked her from sending any more PM's or emails. Shortly after that, she stopped posting on the forum.

I visited the first forum just to look around and that's where I saw a thread that she had died. If memory serves me right, it was some form of cancer. The odd thing is that no one could find an obituary. I had her full name, address and phone number as did a number of other members. Sounded "fishy" to me and still does.

That's weird that no one ever found an obituary. Makes you wonder if she really is dead.

I guess this counts.

I recently joined a forum that has a theme (I don't wanna give to many details about what etc). I joined for the reason of me wanting to talk about said theme however most of the activity on the board was in the off topic areas. I made several topics relating to the theme for them to be ignored. But what was really the icing on the cake is when they introduced elite members and the people who were made elite for "contributing" to the board basically just posted in the off topic sections. So really, they didn't contribute anything.

I'm not sore about not being made elite, I don't care, the point is, I made a better contribution for the type of forum it is and just get ignored.

If I wanted to join another general discussion board, I would have y'know.

I was called by somebody on a forum many racial slurs, and he literally tried to consider me a stalker when I did nothing wrong to him.

I was given a PM by an administrator to see if I'm alright, while the administrator banned the trouble-maker for three months.

I only had one bad experience. This member, no matter what I posted, kept calling me a dumb blond. I thought that was mean as I'm far from being dumb. Oh well, I just ignored her and she finally left me alone.

Well judging by how crazy she seemed in your explanation, I doubt she'd fake her death and stay away forever. She sounds like she craves attention too much for that.

@Nikki: I agree that was uncalled for and not nice. Believe me, you'll never experience that here.

@Nebulous: The consensus is that she was institutionalized and therefore, no obituary.

During a rebellious stage of my life (read: goth) I was a part of a few communities based around the occult, vampires, all that generic jazz. Anyway, one of them was called Hell's Keep, and the administrator was... shall we say, less than mentally stable. He was basically obsessed with me, and he was a compulsive liar. He claimed to be ex-US Special Forces, despite being 17 at the time. When I spurned his advances towards me, he got quite aggressive, even claiming to find me and kill me. It was quite worrying, even though I knew nothing would come of it because he was a scrawny little tosser. He started editing people's posts (including mine) to detail how everyone loved him etc. and in the end, everyone left because he was an absolute nutbar.

Wow sounds like he needed to take a chill pill :chill: and see a shrink. O.o

If you thought you were in real danger, would you have contacted the police?

I registered to a teen help & advice forum about three years ago; it was a lovely place at first, very welcoming and friendly, and I made a lot of new friends and eventually found myself as staff on the site. Unfortunately we had two members sign up from another site and repeatedly make attacks on me; one day I flipped and had a huge argument with them - the administrators didn't like it, I argued with them, then I got banned.

A year or so later ownership change and the new admins let me back on the site; much to my disappointment they were incompetent and blatantly only brought the site to earn profit from their investment (previous owners sold it for low cost - the site is like PR3 and has very high traffic). Unfortunately it's been driven into the ground by poor staff and member behavior. I got the hell out of there a couple of months ago and started up my own site with about 20-30 of the active, mature members still remaining.

It was a lovely site for a time, but just turned into a cesspit of selfish, bad-manner, arrogant children looking for acceptance and attention. I'm extremely glad I stuck around for as long as I did though, because I met my wonderful partner of 20 months on there and to this day we're still going strong in our relationship. It paid off.

At least some good came out of it!

Wow, that's some serious crazy shit. I would have been scared no matter how scrawny the little tosser was.
