I just got a itemized list of all the damages and receipts for all the work done on the place I just moved from.

It totals to: $1,300!!!

WTF is wrong with them. They are going to have to take me to court because Im not paying that. Its ridiculous.

Holy crap! Did you happen to take pictures when you moved out? I would wait and let them take me to court. If they do then the burden of proof that you did this damage is theirs.

You should always take dated pictures of when you move in and when you move out

Still, they are going to have to prove without a doubt that you did this damage. How are they going to do that unless THEY did the damage and are now going to blame you

I hope they're not crazy enough to have done this and then took their own dated pictures! If it gets to court just bring several witnesses with you that will testify that the damage they are claiming is bogus.

I would also try to find out how long that old apartment stayed vacant after you moved out and, if possible, when it was rented again. If it sat vacant for any lenght of time anyone could have done that damage they are claiming you did. Also didn't you vacate before your lease was up? If so, the owner of that apartment was probably pissed and you would want to bring that up in court as well.



Can you tell yet that I own rental property? I know all the tricks that BAD landlords can pull

Almost everything they are claiming has to do with my cat. My cat could not have caused all that damage. Plus it doesn't even spray.

Yes they are dirty slum lords.

Do you think you are responsible for any repair on that list? You need to be honest and think about this question. Then I'll tell you where we go with this next

I think a lot of it was normal wear and tear damage that they have fix between tenants anyways and they are just looking for a reason not to pay for it.

Some of it was but nothing that would exceed the amount of my deposit in my opinion.

Here's two options that you can do:



1. Copy the the bills/receipts that you think you owe. Write a check for that amount and in the memo box put paid in full for damages and attach the copy to your check. IF the slum lord cashes the check, that means he's accepting that that's all you owe him. He cannot legally go after you for the remainder.



2. Wait it out and let him take you to small claims court.

Well I'll have to wait for court if they take it that far... I dont have the money to be writing out checks for any amount at the moment.

I remember from your previous posts that the landlord sounds like a jerk. Jazzy is more help to you then I am, but I know that's not right unless you completely destroyed the place. Don't believe that's the case.

Hope you get this sorted Nebulous, sounds like a horrible mess you are in. I agree take the case to court they have to have strong pieces of evidence against you. That's a lot of money.

Well its been about 10 days. In the letter they said if I dont pay it or make payment arrangements with them within 10 days they will seek alternative methods of collection
