A satellite launched on July 15 has taken an image which shows off the future of weather forecasting.

The MSG-4 satellite will take images of Earth in 12 wavelengths every 15 minutes once fully operation – making forecasts FAR more accurate.

The satellite’s infrared and visible light imagers can keep track on cloud development far more accurately than previous weather satellites – and thus ‘predict’ weather far more accurately.

It can also pick out features as small as 1km across.

Naturally, the first image shows Britain covered by a massive cloud, a cyclone centred on the North West of Scotland which brought windy weather and showers to most of Britain on Tuesday.

‘The weather is constantly changing, so accurate forecasting is vital for effective agriculture, industry and transportation,’ said a spokesman for the European Space Agency.
