Pretending to be a girl?

Why do you think males go around forums (and websites) pretending to be a female?  Any opinions on this subject?

I feel like females get more attention than males, mainly because apparently everyone on the internet is a male, and when you manage to prove your a female or adamantly claim you're female, that attention explodes.

During my forum life, I've never pretended to be a girl. (Well once when a forum I was on was about to close down, then I went back to my real gender five minutes before it happened.)

It was made as a joke though.

Did you know, this is funny you brought this up. Back in the early 00's, I was on a Dragonball Z forum and there was this girl and we were all convinced she was a girl, she would flirt with members and everything. Then suddenly, someone caught him in his lie, it was a man. The forum broke out into a very weird state lol.

I don't know why people do this? Some to troll, some might just be twisted. Who knows?

Yeah,

but its sick when they start flirting with the same sex, pretending to be the other sex. That is just shady behavior if you ask me. Sickening, actually.

The only reason I can think of has already been mentioned. They are, for some weird reason, seeking attention. I think it's pretty sick to be flirting with the males on a forum when they themselves are a male.

The only logical reason I could think of is for the attention. It's sad to think about.. Someone out there is so lonely and hates themselves so much that they have to pretend to be someone they're not. it's even sadder that they're switching their gender as well. God bless them. I hope they grow up and figure things out!

Other than the fact that females tend to get a lot more attention on forums I really don't see any other reason why guys would pretend to be women to be honest.

I think it mostly has to do with attention. A guy usually doesn't get a lot of attention on a forum because there are so many on any given forum. A woman however does especially if they posted a picture of themselves that would deem them attractive then the attention goes up. Unfortunately for those who try to pose as a woman, they tend to get caught on their lie eventually because you can't fake it forever as someone will become wise to the deception eventually and then things get ugly for the person lying to the community about who they are.

Back in the days of dial up BBS-ing, there were a couple of locals who were 'trolling' for girls.

They would find local girls who were looking for attention. And give it to them.

The SYSOP of the service I was working on had heard that at least one of his users, one or two of 500 or so, was doing that. He also knew that I had written some very good 'adult' fiction in the female voice, so he asked me if I thought I could 'pose as a teenage girl and get them to bite'.

At the time, I was a Correctional Officer, so I had at least something of an interest in law enforcement, so, I said 'sure, I'll give it a shot'.

And for the next three years I had an 'juvee' account on the BBS that I would log into 'after school' and just do what a teenage girl would do: play games, leave brainless comments in serious discussion threads, and use 'ohmygawd' a lot in chat rooms.

And whenever I got a private message that was 'inappropriate' I sent a screen shot to SYSOP.

From what I understand, at least a couple of those screenshots, with time and date, ended up in state's evidence.

So, yeah, I've pretended to be a female. And, evidently (pun intended), did so somewhat convincingly.

a forum i used to go on (long gone now) had its own chat room that we used to hang out in but it was on a chat room site, so any stranger who wasnt a forum member could 'room hop'

so there was 4 or 5 of us chatting away when a stranger turns up and starts joining in................and for some reason thinks im a female!!!!....even tho im using the same name as i do here!!!!....................and the other guys even started encouraging him lol

so i start playing along, ended up taking him into a private room so i could go 'on cam for a show'

and the cam goes on and im sat there with a beard and a sign saying 'owned' giving him the finger
