Does that kind of "job" exist?

I feel like if you're getting paid to post on forums, it would lose the authenticity and the sense of community? But idk

Have you ever experienced it yourself?

Is it possible to have it as a full-time job?

I imagine that this kind of job will only available as part-time... right?

Yeah they don’t pay very much, lots of time & effort with little reward.

I've lurked a couple forums full of paid-to-post members and its just empty nothingness people are posting. You can tell nobody has ANY interest in what they're discussing. The conversations are very dry, flat and have no emotion, members have no connection with each other.

It's pretty useless, unless you happen to find someone that actually has some interest in the them of your forum (in which case they might join anyway!). MAYBE just to get a few initial posts (even if the conversations are a bit empty), but having to go on after that is not really feasible IMO. Like Nebulous says, you can just see that the conversations feel empty.
I tried a couple just for the fun of it, and I would not do it again :P

Definitely hard to make it worthwhile, that's for sure. Unless you're hired on as a community manager or something for a corporate entity, there's really nothing fruitful about paid posting.

Also you get some paid posters posting the same content across various forums. This can affect SEO.
I've seen this practice first-hand.

As in I had two people I paid to post at my forum a few posts :p

Were they expensive? I've never paid people to post here.

Is that a concern of yours? If you go on any forum you never see people saying they found the forum from a google search. People find forums via other forums or they were referred there by a friend.

That applies in the majority of cases, sure, but I indeed joined a few forums through a google search. In fact one found SCF via google, which I'm surprised by as it didn't appear when i searched it, at least not as one of the top results.

PS: The most active forums i.e. 100+ members online at once generally tend to appear the top of the google search results when entering keywords.

Those mega forums are the worst, I don't want to be shouting into the void and my posts buried in seconds because there is so many people there.

Yeah it's true, I'd say you're perfect!
I'd say unless you were there from the start and so have already developed your friendship circle there, it's not really worth it.

Somewhat.

I'm the community manager at Copyblogger.com.

I get paid to do it. But I'm also required to engage members, network members, and even do monthly zoom meetings with them. It's work.

Posting on the discussion feature of the community platform (Circle) is a part of the job.

So, yeah, it's out there but is usually requires work to make anything significant.

Of course it's a paid community so there is a revenue stream to pay me for my services.

It doesn't pay enough to make a living if that's what you're wondering. If that were the case, I would have made it my second job lol.

This is an older topic, but still wanted to chime in. Long time ago there was an extremely active and popular forum which offered services to help people with their community. Advertising, posting packages (post on their community), reviews, et. The services used a forum currency, so there was no real money involved. At that time, it was the most popular place and all the teams were busy, but package team was on fire - to the point where we often had to ask other teams for help. One reason this was so popular was because it was fake currency. If we charged real money, I guarantee our services wouldn't have been used as much.

Point being, people want their community to be active, but they don't want to pay for it. Same concept with these "paid to post" companies. In the grand scheme, posting on your community is a food crumb, it doesn't matter. The people who do it as a job "don't deserve to get paid good for such an easy thing" in the company's eyes. Oddly enough, though, this isn't limited to only "paid to post". Try to find a job where you're paid to be a Discord Moderator. You ain't gonna find shit. If you do, they will have STEEP requirements. We are in an age where technology rules everything, yet there's still a lot of ignorance surrounding it. "You don't deserve to get paid for sitting on you ass doing something online."

From the OP. Maybe for the regulars, who understand that the owner pays for packages, but for the casual person, most don't even know posting packages exist.

Very true, the posting package sections on those forums would be dead and covered in dust if you charged real money for it.

Forum currency is easy to generate, it only costs you your time (to create threads and posts on the promotion forum, or perhaps members pay you for a service, like creating graphics for them or whatever) then in return the staff from the promotion forum donate their time fulfilling the package requests. It seems like an even exchange of time for time instead of using actual money.

There is no money to be made in forums, discord or social media but there are lots of other jobs out there in the technology / internet sector that give people a decent income, and some have become very rich from it.

Software development. Even forum owners need add-ons made. Good luck finding devs to do that for free.

Software development is defenetely a paying gig in most cases. Forum add-ons = yes and no. The majority of our add-ons here are free ones. We do have a couple that I've paid for though.

And then some mod or admin will start telling you what to post.

I've worked on websites where I did get paid to post on forums. It doesn't pay much, but it's fun to join a bunch of different forums and get paid a little bit of money for doing something you like to do. It can be difficult to come up with posts if it's on a forum with a niche you're not familiar with though.
