Sometimes people live where they have no choice.
Like 'they' say: "Beggars can't be choosers."
We were there for seems like the longest time; thought we'd always have dial-up.
... better than nothing, I GUESS. Then some little podunk company came along & hooked up a sky-fi network in our area! 
That little one-horse company ("Rabbit Meadows" 
) has evolved into a pretty big outfit now!{

If someone sent me a picture in the e-mail I had to go out & mow the lawn & then go in & see if it was done loading.
I used to work in a place where I used NetZero in the middle of the night for access.
Yes, it was dialup, and it was slow, and it had ads, and it would crap out for no reason.
BUT. It was free, and it worked.

I remember having dial up as a kid... And then upgrading to DSL. DSL was life changing at that point. Then we moved, and DSL wasn't available there, so we got back on dial up. We still had dial up until around when I started high school. That was just 15 years ago.
