  1. The Right's War on Free Speech

From the Red Scare, though Political Correctness, and to today's Woke Politics we have continuously seen an effort by those on the right to silence and neutralize political voices from the left. The attempt by a right wing group to use the courts to silence a left wing podcast is just the latest...
  2. Subject you don't want discussed at the table while you eat?

I was initially really surprised to see politics being mentioned so often as subjects people don't want discussed while eating. It hadn't even occurred to me that this was a potential subject up for nomination when I saw the thread. I think my bigger issue is if I am taken by surprise. I don't...
  3. Love a clone?

This topic was nothing like I thought it would be based on the title. When I read that I thought it was going to be about whether you could love a clone of yourself.  As for the topic, no, I agree with Neb and Wes that they wouldn't be the same person.
  4. Reverse Mask Mandate

I am not sure I even fully understand or appreciate the point of implementing this ban. What demographics usually shop at that burger chain? Wondering if this is more reflective of the political persuasion of the owners or their customer base.
  5. Is it okay to break the law?

Yes, I do think that there are circumstances where it is okay to break the law. This applies to cases where the law is out of touch with normal lived experiences and the consequences that would result from breaking it are approaching non existent. But also to cases where the law itself in...
  6. Pet goat slaughtered and served at community BBQ

Thank you, that makes a lot more sense now. I am pretty sure we have similar programs in the country here in New Zealand. It sounds like quite a positive and fulfilling initiative. Both helping with the development of children and better integrating them into community life. I am still mystified...
  7. Target or Walmart?

Haha yeah, we also have our own variants here in New Zealand too. Most of which admittedly didn't come from New Zealand. The Warehouse is the only one off the top of my head which did originate here. I mostly shop from out online stores these days anyway.
  8. Is renting better than owning?

There are circumstantial situations in which renting can be better than owning, however I think that in general owning is better. On a wider more societal level wider ownership is more positive than renting as I don't think that housing is something which should be directed towards profiteering.
  9. What would you have been called if you were the opposite gender?

Yes! That is the one! Not sure why I randomly remembered him though. I mean my ex is called Yuna and during our 3 year relationship I never once remembered the Final Fantasy character. Yet in this brief exchange I remember a character much less central to the respective franchise.
  10. What would you have been called if you were the opposite gender?

That would be amazing though if they went by that full username. Axel is a good name though. Isn't that a Kingdom Hearts character?
  11. What would you have been called if you were the opposite gender?

Really? I think "If I was born in the right body I would have been named Paul. But Axel is a much cooler name and that's why I went with Axel. :p" is a little bit long to be a username. 😅 😅 Same here, it had never occurred to me to ask. It also isn't really possible for me to do so now.
  12. Target or Walmart?

Neither of them are in New Zealand and I am going to be honest with you, I am not going to book a return flight to a country which has either of them just to shop there. 😅 😅
  13. Should low quality university degrees be restricted?

@Black Angel I had also been wondering whether it was targeting fraudulent institutions like that as well. Which as you covered are extremely unethical and predatory. It amazes me that they can remain legal given how they are scams. It seems there is a fine line and some can skate by on...
  14. Pet goat slaughtered and served at community BBQ

I am really unfamiliar with programs like that, so this seems like a really unusual situation to me. It comes across as irresponsible of the parents. It is hard to learn much about how that program is run though with how the video is framed.
  15. What are you currently watching?

Titans! I am surprised how hooked I got into it. I just started watching it this week and I am already up to the third season. will possibly finish it this week. I shouldn't have put it off for so long.
  16. Final Fantasy X

I think if I am doing repetitive stuff in a game like that, then I need to be doing something else at the same time. Usually streaming a show, watching videos on YouTube or listening to podcasts. Sometimes I would even be studying while gaming. I was actually doing my research for an assignment...
  17. Final Fantasy X

I am quite similar to you with that. I think that is why I found X to be one of the harder entries, as I played a lot of the other games when I still enjoyed spending lots of hours grinding. Whereas I did very little of that in my playthrough of X. A few of the bosses I ended up limping through...
  18. Failing or never trying?

Agreed with the general consensus here that it is worse to never try. Although admittedly that is something that I have often had a bad habit of doing. These past few years I have had to actively make efforts to overcome this part of my personality.
  19. Are you picky about what games you buy?

I have gotten more fussy with purchases in the short term, but in general I am not fussy at all. I enjoy a fairly wide variety of game genres which opens up lots of possibilities for me. In the short term though I don't think there are any games I am especially wanting to buy. Although I tend to...
  20. Final Fantasy X

That is understandable, I was the same with it myself. Back on the PS2 I didn't get very far into the game at all. I think I might it not much further than the blitzball tournament. It wasn't until a few years ago when I played through the remake that I finished the story. I enjoyed it quite a...
