  3. How many admins/moderators?

I think minimal amounts of administrators. I personally prefer working alone or with one other person. Any more than that and I feel cramped in my work space on the forum. I like working and acting quickly on my forum, and if there are people that are impeding that, then I'd rather not have...

  5. Ads

Ads on forums are fine for me. Some people need a little bit of cash to get themselves some coffee and that is perfectly fine. What bothers me are administrators that place ads in places to try and make money off of them. Forums are not much money makers and I don't really know why...

Good point Jazzy. That is something we discussed and we realized there was a very fragile line between donations and out-right paying for membership.
  8. Donations? Incentives & Motivation Discussion

Something simple like that is great. I would also personally thank them in a news announcement of some sort. The conversation on ForumBlogger went like this He obviously isn't running his forum solely based on this idea of donations, but he would like to be able to use it if it can...

But what if you need donations to run your forum? Donations might just be a nice way to get some extra cash, but if you are in need of this cash to pay for your forum, would you still just keep it the way you mentioned Nebulous?

Michael and I just recently began discussion donations on my blog here: http://forumblogger.com/need-your-opinion/ (scroll down to the comments a bit). I think it's quite interesting what the discussion has led to so far. It's interesting that he talked about a distinct difference between...

  15. Do Affiliate Buttons Work?

Yes, life has luck all the time. But let's put it this way shall we, who would be more successful at running a coding a forum, one who knows nothing about coding, one who knows a lot about coding, or one who knows a lot about coding and community management? Who has the most CHANCE at having...
  16. Do Affiliate Buttons Work?

Then the second forum is not doing the proper things to make that forum successful. I don't believe in luck as the only form of success. If a forum has potential, then if managed by the correct person, it will succeed. Forums are successful based on the administrators. If you have a good...
  17. Do Affiliate Buttons Work?

I don't think it's like winning the lottery. Time and patience is all it should take. Some might get traffic sooner than others, but I think it is not pure luck involved. One can actually determine this factor in the life of their forum.
  18. Do Affiliate Buttons Work?

The only harm I can see, FullMoon, is wasted time. What if you could have 10x more views on your forum for less work? I'm sure you'd rather do that than submit yourself to thousands of databases only to get marginal results.

  20. Do Affiliate Buttons Work?

The thing is... getting good backlinks is better than getting a bunch. If you could get just one really good backlink, then that is better than submitting your site to 100 directories. I've looked heavily on this because I started running a blog recently and SEO is a big concern there. Backlinks...
