    It wasn't a water bottle. If you look closely, you'll see that it is what looks like a magazine wrapped in a tee shirt.

    A lot of people who get struck by lightning survive. I remember one story of a man who was walking home and got struck just outside his front gate and collapsed. Was found the next morning with only minor burns to his feet.
