Interesting and unexpected facts can emerge from daily news stories and the Magazine picks out such snippets for its weekly feature, 10 things we didn't know last week. Here's an almanac of the best of 2013.

Some very interesting facts that I had no idea about before reading them in the almanac.

What did you think of the almanac?

I was expecting a list of interesting scientific and evolutionary discoveries in the past twelve months.

I was disappointed. A lot of the things in this list are just stupid trivia. Prince Charles hasn't ridden the Underground in 27 years? Wow great, I couldn't keep living without that knowledge

"44. "God's bones" was the sweariest expression in medieval times."

So an expression that has been around for hundreds of years, and yet we "only just know it"? I call shenanigans.

Same here. How anti-climactic :P

11. Wines with animals on the label are known as "critter wines" in the US.

Bullshit.

I have worked as a bartender and in a liquor store FOR YEARS and never heard that expression before.

So I went looking at the article, and its author.

Our wine writer Fiona Beckett is also a cookery writer, a contributing editor to Decanter magazine and to the artisanal food magazine, Fork. She also has - she admits - an absurd number of websites and blogs including Matching Food & Wine which does what it says on the tin, Credit Crunch Drinking which focuses on bargains and Wine Naturally, about organic, biodynamic and natural wines, mainly from small producers

She writes about "organic, bio...." yeah,

Bullshit.

Doc knows his alcohol!

"92. Americans pronounce gifs as "jifs"."

Did nobody actually say gif before this year or something

And even more are dying as I read deeper into the list.
