MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) — Police say an officer making a traffic stop in eastern Wisconsin found an intoxicated driver behind the wheel — and she was just 13 years old.

They say five other juveniles, 14 and under, were along for the ride.

Authorities say the officer stopped the vehicle in Manitowoc shortly before midnight Wednesday because its headlights were off. Police Capt. Larry Zimney tells WOMT radio that the girl was arrested and later released to her mother.

Police say one of the juvenile passengers was taken to the Sheboygan County juvenile detention center because of a pending court order.

What do you think her punishment should be?

Her mother should spend time behind bars for child neglect. The child should go to juvenile detention and attend an alcohol treatment program.

There's not enough information to make that determination. A teenager doesn't need to be monitored 24/7 but it seems this one does. She should have been stuck in juvenile hall for longer.

^ My 13 year old child (if I had one) would NOT be drinking, driving or out at midnight. As a parent, it's my responsibility to watch over and take care of a minor child. Where the hell did this 13 year old get a car to drive? Let me guess. Her mother was probably sleeping or passed out from drinking so the child took the car keys. Yep, real good parenting there, eh?

Of course if you had a 13 year old you wouldn't want them to do those things, but you'll have to fall asleep sometime and that will be her opportunity to sneak out. Would you lock your child away and nail the windows shut to prevent them from escaping? The teenager is the one in the wrong here and needs to be punished.
