2 girls told to close lemonade stand for lack of permit

Two Texas girls whose lemonade stand was shut down because they lacked a permit will instead offer the drink for free.

Television station KLTV reports that 8-year-old Andria Green and her 7-year-old sister, Zoey, will take only donations for lemonade Saturday in Overton, about 120 miles east of Dallas.

A police officer on Monday approached the stand, which offered lemonade for 50 cents and "kettle korn" for $1.

In patrol-car video, the officer can be heard asking the girls' mother, Sandi Evans, for a permit. She says she wasn't aware they needed one.

Overton's police chief says police must follow state health guidelines.

Oh thank you for ridding society of those dangerous lemonade traffickers! I feel so much safer now!!! (Sarcasm)

Smart girls for offering it free for donations. If they were closer I'd make the trip just to help.

So, if I understand the article correctly, you don't need a permit if you're giving it away for free, but if you're selling it, you need a permit from a health inspection which serves as a proof that your merchandise (lemonade, in this case) isn't dangerous to people's health.

Does that mean the free stuff is automatically guaranteed not to be a health hazard, and as such doesn't need to be checked by a health inspection?

Or am I just rambling nonsense here? :unsure2:
