The peace prize has been rendered essentially meaningless since the committee gave it to Al Gore for a parcel of lies and to Barack Obama for nothing more than a bunch of campaign promises, which amounts to the same thing.

The once most significant award that could be earned by a human being for contributions to the welfare of others of their species has been cheapened to a political statement by a handful of social engineers attempting to promote their own agenda to the rest of the world.

In short- Dr. Nobel's highest award is now a handful of used spit.

I agree. I was shocked and disgusted when Obama received it. For what? Sad really such a once prestigious award is now degraded so much in value.

I didn't know zeitgeist was a category for the Nobel prize.

It is something to behold when you have a leader that is able to capture the spirit of the times. I have to give Obama credit for this, he had celebrity-like status. In 2004 that speech he made at the DNC was absolutely inspirational.

During the elections people had more reason to vote. Every man woman and child was talking about Obama. Then when he was inaugurated I had not seen so many people so fired up. The whole world was watching for a change. I don't know whether it was because he was the first black president or that it represented that America was transitioning since Bush's regime that made countries from around the world renew their faith in the America.

Afterwords the noise kind of died down. A couple of bills and acts here and there - mostly social reform. Obamacare. International meetings, etc. I have to give him props for eliminating the world's most wanted terrorist.

I'm sorry.

The Peace prize is supposed to be awarded for Deeds, not words.

the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.

from the Will of Alfred Nobel.

You can read more at: http://www.nobelprize.org/

They apparently awarded Obama for for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people. so I guess that falls under the category of peace and fraternity between nations.

I wouldn't call his efforts extraordinary. Just his small time in office, and what exactly were his actions in the first place that made him a candidate?

All I know is these three women have been fighting against oppression their whole lives and deserve the award. http://en.wikipedia....Nobel_Laureates

If you look at when the nominations were due the year Mr. Obama won (in February!), he had been in office for a couple of weeks before he was nominated.

If you look at what he had actually done to promote world peace in that time..... yeah.

If you look at his voting record in the Senate, you wonder if he was even there most of the time. The votes he did cast give him a marginal record toward that end at best.

Which means his Prize was a fraud.

There is no argument that this years award is well deserved and how the Prize should have been awarded all along.

It is a shame it was abused toward political ends the way it has been in recent years.
