What happened in the 2024 General Conference of the United Methodist Church and what is coming?

They are going woke
If you mean "by going woke" that they're recognizing the reality of having LGBTQ parishioners/clergy in their denomination and no longer sanctioning them then I suspect most Christians including myself have no problem with it. It is the height of hypocrisy for some within the broader Christian faith to preach that we are all made in the image and likeness of God, SI (if I may call you that, @safeinsanity) as stated in Gen. 1:27, then turn around in the same breath condemn homosexuals (as mentioned in Lev. 18:22, Lev. 20:13 and later on in 1 Cor. 6: 9-10.

I would frankly, SI, make this argument: at some point, just as the Protestant Reformers stood up to the might and power of the Catholic Church, moderating voices within the Christian faith are going to have their put foot down against the traditionalists and the condemnatory and say "No, you do not get to define who can be a part of our faith! You do not get to define what the Scriptures say on this point or on that point; we all have to decide those things ourselves, with the assured guidance of the Holy Spirit at each moment."

As an aside, I grew up going to a UMC church (specifically, Denton's Chapel here in Western NC, which was one of the churches that left to join the Global Methodist Church) so this issue hits on several counts (its' also an issue starting to wrap its' vines around the Adventist church, of which I'm currently a member of.
