What's a sign that a movie is going to be bad?

An exposition in which one character explains everything that's going on to another character that should already know what is going on.

For me the sign of a bad movie is a bad trailer. If the trailer looks lame then the movie probably isn't going to be any better. You can get a clue from the trailer what the movie is about and also tend to get a glimpse of acting performance which is also important.

When the acting is terrible or the story is bad causing the characters to look stupid.

Multiple dramatic release date changes (slight moves are common to avoid competition), major crew changes, embargo on critic screenings.

This.

When the trailer looks bad, that will throw me off. I won't go see the movie if the trailer looks bad.

Sometimes I see a trailer & it's the opposite. The trailer looked better than the movie! For me, it has to be the acting. If the acting is very bad, no matter how good the plot is, I don't bother anymore. I keep a list of what I've watched too in Microsoft Word. How the storyline goes, if it moves slow is not a deterrent either as long as the acting is great & you are held entranced.

It's a sequel made without the involvement of the original's main cast.
