Scenario: You are driving and witness a bad car accident. What would you do?

If I have a cell phone, I'd call for an ambulance. And check on the ones in the accident to make sure they are okay till the ambulance gets there.

Call 911 from my cell phone while I am pulling over to see if I can help in anyway.

need more info for the scenario.........

in town or lonely country road?.......middle of day or night?......is there other 'witnesses/helpers' there?

phone emergency services (dont assume someone else has cos they would rather have 6 identical calls than not get 1)

if no one else has took control of the situation then start giving directions (you two....control traffic.....you check that car......you check the other car)

if i was on my own i would check vehicles are safe (ign off/no fire present/any leaking fuel?).......assess people in cars for injury, tell them to stay in vehicle and stay still until emergency services arrive in case of neck/back/head injury.............control any bleeding (i always have first aid kit in my car)......basically keep warm and still until the professionals get there.....any unconscious people need airways checking

It's good to know from the replies that there are still good samaritans out there.

I had a terrible car accident when I was younger. I was trapped inside the car and knew my injuries were bad. I could see cars slowing down and looking and then speeding up and leaving. Not one person bothered to stop and see if they could help me. I just prayed that one of those people would call the police for me. Back then I didn't have a cell phone. Took about 45 minutes before I heard a siren and saw a State Trooper pulling over. It was the longest 45 minutes of my life and just started crying when I saw him. To this day, I can't believe not one person cared enough to stop and try to help me.

That's sad, but I know how you feel. I was in a car crash when I was about younger and my mother was pulling out of a junction when a car T-boned her. I remember sitting in my seat looking out of the window and seeing cars slow down but carry on past us. My mother has a neck injury and I had whiplash but yet not one person stopped, and this was on a major road so we could have been hit again. Took, what felt like, ages for someone to actually stop and phone the ambulance and police.
