Ever encountered this sort of thing? I think it's the most stupidest reason to delete someone's account. Maybe the person is busy with stuff real life. Heck I know people that hasn't been in a forum for a long time and then they return after 6 months or something. I was once in a forum that would get an account deleted after just 2 weeks of inactivity even though I was busy with exams

Yes, I had this happen to me. TBH, I forgot that it was one of their rules and I missed posting there for a month. When I went back my account had been deleted. Obviously if I hadn't been there for a month maybe there was a reason.

I see the option for this on various mods for SMF but I ask why? Like you I find it very stupid. People can be busy. I've had members be inactive for almost a year and come back.

I don't see the benefit in the feature and it's rather pointless to delete accounts outside of spam bots. People can get busy and they have no obligation to post on your board so perhaps they should think as to why people don't stick around instead of just deleting them from the board. It could simply be a matter of being busy or just not providing what that person hopes to get from being a member of your board.

Yeah, exactly.

This is honestly really retarded. I have no idea why you would delete users after two weeks of inactivity... there are quite a few forums I don't go on for two weeks, but that doesn't mean I'm not coming back. And deleting them at all is just stupid.

It's not needed and I will never do it myself and I never have done.

It's not fair that people get banned because they're inactive. I was inactive on one forum, and the admin emailed me to remnd me that the forum still exist and if I wanted my account. I think that the admin should email the inactive person if the person still wants there account before they do anything.

If someone threatened to delete my account for being inactive, I'd tell them to go ahead and delete it. I dont want ot be on a forum like that anyways.

If I came back to a forum discovered my account being deleted, I wouldnt bother to register another one.

Well good think Off Topix isn't that sort of site, because I've just returned after nearly five months. Like you mentioned, real life does get people!

However, I do think it's okay to delete accounts that have not been at all active after a certain amount of time. Like pruning accounts. However, just doing it on a month-to-month basis could be a little horrid. Oh, and if a site does decide they must do that, sending out an e-mail before hand would definitely be smart.

Well in the forum I was in I had no warning or even a notifaction that my account got deleted. Heck there was nothing in the rules saying that I would be banned if I was inactive

I don't delete anyone from my forum. I have sent out notices to those that have registered and never posted in X amount of time...but, X amount of time is normally months not weeks. Usually I want to find out if they are having trouble navigating the forum or if they need help with something. I know I have registered on a few forums before and didn't bookmark them, then couldn't remember the name.

The one thing I have never been able to understand is if you have an open forum, so anyone at anytime can see all that is going on and can lurk without registering...why bother registering then never ever post?

I was deleted from an anime forum almost a year ago, I made like 30 posts and I wasn't able to come on for 2 months because I didn't have a computer. So then when I came on, all of my posts were gone and there was no hotspot. It really annoyed me, especially since other people who never posted that joined a long time ago didn't get deleted. I sent an email, but never got a response.

I don't delete inactive accounts on my forum, as I really feel that is stupid. Yes, it is a bad impression if a new member comes on and sees loads of people with zero posts, but at the end of the day, you never know if people are going to want to come back and start posting again. So in all honesty, I don't think deleting inactive accounts is a good idea.
