Advertisement placement for me depends on the size of the ad as well. A tiny one isn't going to annoy me as much on top but the really huge ones that show most of my screen before even giving me a glimpse of the actual page frustrates me.
I really prefer ads to be below or on the side bar. I rarely click on ads anyway so having them on top of a page isn't going to entice me.
