He blew his cover with a leak.
After being on the lam for 27 years, a convicted robber who escaped from a Florida work-release center in 1983 was arrested by police Jan. 21 when an officer reportedly spotted him urinating in public.
In the middle of a five-year prison sentence for robbery, Edward Nathan Jr. walked out of the Tampa Community Correctional Center on Aug. 27, 1983 -- then dropped off the grid entirely, law enforcement officials say, according to News4Jax.com.
That is until last week when a cop in Atlanta arrested a man on suspicion of relieving himself in public.
The suspect -- who gave his name as Claude Brooks and said he was employed by Atlanta's Public Works Department as an environmental services worker -- was charged with a civil infraction and released on bond the next day.
But when officials ran the man's fingerprints through a national database, they realized he had been using a fake name and that the Florida Department of Corrections had been looking for him for decades, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The U.S. Marshals Service reportedly assisted Atlanta police in apprehending the 50-year-old on the old Florida warrant. He is expected to be brought back to Florida.
