With the holiday season underway, intimate security checks at American airports are continuing to upset travellers.

When passengers refuse the full body scanners they may be submitted to what authorities are calling an enhanced pat-down.

Politicians are calling for them to be outlawed but the department of justice has threatened that flights whose passengers are not screened will be cancelled.

Nancy Campbell, a 33-year-old from Brooklyn, compared the experience to being sexually assaulted.

She had been rushing to board an early morning flight to Washington from New York's La Guardia airport when she was selected for a check at the gate by a female official from the US Transportation Security Administration or TSA.

[The official] asked me to spread my arms and my legs... and she explained that she would check me from the outside of my arms and the outside of my legs first and then proceed with the inside.

What I wasn't prepared for was a full examination of my breasts and when she got through that, that's when I asked her to stop, that I'd had enough.

But Nancy was told that either she allowed the search to go on or she wouldn't be able to fly. As she was on an important business trip, Nancy felt she had little choice but to agree.

She basically touched the insides of my legs - touching my crotch and my buttocks, all the time not offering me an alternative.

Nancy filed a complaint about her treatment with the TSA.

What do members here think - is this going too far ?

What one person considers a sexual assault another person could consider a necessary security measure. How about we please all the complainers and just stop all screening at airports. Let people get aboard the plane carrying whatever they are carrying. When the plane blows up, then what are the complainers going to complain about then?

I agree Jazzy, perhaps this woman should have agreed to the

body scanner option, at least with that there's no 'hands on' contact.

I'm guessing it's probably quicker too.

Well, drugs and contraband have often been hidden inside a person's anus or vagina. So really she's lucky they didn't ask her to strip off so they could ram their hand up there.

Then the complainers would complain that perverts are looking at them naked. The perverts are also making copies of naked passengers and posting them on YouTube for the world to see.

The problem with complainers is there's no pleasing them. I say to all of the complainers STOP flying and find another means of transportation.

I wish.

If only there was some way to prevent people from even wanting to blow up planes...

I was leaving Florida Flying out of Tampa and did go through the scanner and it went off- Then I was Patted down Yes it was pretty bad, like you said from the top to the bottom- I was asked of course if I wanted to go to a private room, But I wasnt going to miss my flight THEN WHAT!! I was told I had radio active material on me and I was going to jail. Well after being interegrated for about 15 minutes or so They came to the conclusion, that I was in my Aunts garden picking strawberry's earlier in the morning and still had some fertalizer on my hands and shoes. The BAD part about all of this was my Fiance was holding my computer bag ( AND THEY NEVER EVEN WENT THROUGH THAT) WOW!!! Just goes to show you that they just think they know what they are doing. It was a good thing I was an hour early for my flight because I just made the last boarding call. OH I didnt go to Jail.
