The standoff between law enforcement and an Alabama man named Jimmy Lee Dikes, who held the young boy in a bunker for seven days, finally ended after a rescue operation today.
The suspect is dead and the five-year-old boy was safely rescued.
Dikes, the ââ¬Åsurvivalist killerââ¬Â that gunned down a bus driver before taking the boy hostage has been confirmed dead after the dramatic seven-day ordeal.
The five-year-old boy hostage, known only as Ethan, was taken from the scene to the hospital and is believed to be in fine condition. The child was reportedly taken to nearby Flowers Hospital but is not believed to be injured.
Neighbors claim they heard loud booms around 3:30 today and an ambulance parked near the bunker was spotted driving off without lights or sirens on about ten minutes later.
Some neighbors claimed they heard gunshots at about the same time as the loud booms, but those reports have not yet been confirmed.
Reporters for CBS radio affiliate WSB said they heard what may have been a concussion grenade before emergency vehicles swarmed the scene.
Sykes had continued to demand ââ¬Å4 minutes on all major networksââ¬Â to tell his story.
Dykesââ¬â¢s believed that the government was harboring and hiding aliens that threatened to take Americaââ¬â¢s weapons.
