Greenland glacier advancing 7.2 miles per year! The BBC recently ran

Stream keeps temperatures unusually high for such a northerly latitude.

Himalayan Glaciers Not Shrinking
Glacial Experts Question Theory of Global Warming
15 Feb 07 - See Himalayan Glaciers Not Shrinking
.
.
Many people have asked why some glaciers in South America are melting.
I think it is perfectly understandable. Remember, we have had two of the
strongest El Ninos on record during the past 21 years. During an El Nino,
a narrow band of the Pacific Ocean warms by as much as 14 degrees. This
band of warm water travels east essentially along the equator until it slams
into South America.
It seems logical that the increased rainfall caused by El Nino, plus the
warmer winds blowing across the warmer water, could hasten glacial melt.
But let me say it again. I do not believe that this is caused by humans, I think
it is caused by the El Nino phenomenon, which is caused by underwater
volcanism, which is increasing due to the ice-age cycle.
With this said, let me point out many glaciers in South America remain
stable, and some - including the Pio XI Glacier and the Perito Moreno
Glacier - are growing. The Pio XI Glacier is the largest glacier in the
southern hemisphere. The Moreno Glacier is the largest glacier in Patagonia.
I find it curious that news reports do not mention these two glaciers.

Greenland Ice Cap Growing Thicker
So let's blame global warming
page delimiter
20 Oct 2005 - Greenland 's ice-cap has thickened slightly in recent
years despite wide predictions of a thaw, scientists said today. Satellite
measurements show that more snowfall is thickening the ice-cap,
especially at high altitudes, according to the report in the journal Science.
"The overall ice thickness changes are ... approximately plus 5 cms
(1.9 inches) a year or 54 cms (21.26 inches) over 11 years," according
to the experts at Norwegian, Russian and U.S. institutes led by Ola
Johannessen at the Mohn Sverdrup center for Global Ocean Studies
and Operational Oceanography in Norway.
The article then blathers on about how this is consistent with global warming.

Ice and snow piling up over a large area of Antarctica
- 19 May 2005 - According to a new study published in the online edition of Science, the East Antarctic Ice Sheet gained about 45 billion tons of ice between 1992 and 2003. The ice sheets are several kilometers thick in places, and contain about 90% of the world's ice.
Using data from the European Space Agency's radar satellites ERS-1 and ERS-2, a research team from the University of Missouri, Columbia, measured changes in altitude over about 70% of Antarctica's interior. East Antarctica thickened at an average rate of about 1.8 centimeters per year over the time period studied, the researchers discovered.
The region comprises about 75% of Antarctica 's total land area and about 85% of the total ice volume. The area in question covers more than 2.75 million square miles - roughly the same size as the United States.
(This means that more than 90 percent of the world's glaciers are growing thicker … while the media keeps yelling about the ones that are melting.)

Antarctic snow pack increasing 5 feet per year
18 Jul 05 – Here’s another case where the media seems to be trying to hide the fact that snow levels are increasing in Antarctica. The headline, about the Halley VI research station, reads “Base on skis wins polar contract.” The article then rambles on for ten paragraphs before almost mentioning that snow is accumulating in the area at the rate of five feet (1.5m) per year, and that “the previous four bases were all buried.”
Think about that. Snow is accumulating over an area bigger than the
continental United States. How in the world are sea levels supposed to rise, if so much moisture is getting locked up on land as ice? (They're not.)

Experts question theory on global warming
(Himalayan glaciers not shrinking)
New Delhi - 11 Feb 07 - Some glacial experts have questioned the alarmists theory on global warming leading to shrinkage of Himalayan glaciers. VK Raina, a leading glaciologist and former ADG of GSI is one among them.
He feels that the research on Indian glaciers is negligible. Nothing but the remote sensing data forms the basis of these alarmists observations and not on-the-spot research.
Raina told the Hindustan Times that out of 9,575 glaciers in India, research has been conducted only on about 50. Nearly 200 years data has shown that nothing abnormal has occurred in any of these glaciers.
The issue of glacial retreat is being sensationalised by a few individuals, the septuagenarian Raina claimed.
However, Dr RK Pachouri, Chairman, Inter-Governmental Panel of Climatic Change said it’s recently released fourth assessment report has recorded increased glacier retreat since the 1980s.
But Raina, who has been associated with the research and data collection in over 25 glaciers in India and abroad, debunked the theory that Gangotri glacier is retreating alarmingly.
Maintaining that the glaciers are undergoing natural changes witnessed periodically, he said recent studies in the Gangotri and Zanskar areas (Drung- Drung, Kagriz glaciers) have not shown any evidence of major retreat.
"Claims of global warming causing glacial melt in the Himalayas are based on wrong assumptions," said Raina, a trained mountaineer and skiing expert.
There are only about a dozen scientists working on glaciers in India under the aegis of the Geological Society of India. How can one talk about the state of glaciers when not much research is being done on the ground, he wondered.
In fact, it is difficult to ascertain the exact state of Himalayan glaciers as these are very dusty as compared to the ones in Alaska and the Alps. The present presumptions are based on the cosmatic study of the glacier surfaces.
Nobody knows what is happening. Whatever is being flaunted about the under surface activity of the glaciers is merely presumptions, he claimed.
His views were echoed by Dr RK Ganjoo, Director, Regional Centre for Field Operations and Research on Himalayan Glaciology, who is supervising study of glaciers in Ladakh region including one in the Siachen area. He also maintained that nothing abnormal has been found in any of the Himalyan glaciers studied so far by him.
Another leading geologist MN Koul of Jammu University, who is actively engaged in studying glacier dynamics in J&K and Himachal holds similar views. Referring to his research on Kol glacier ( Paddar, J&K) and Naradu (HP), he said both the glaciers have not changed much in the past two decades.

Alaska's Glaciers Are Growing
By Dennis T. Avery - 28 Oct 08 – “Alaska’s glaciers grew this year, after
shrinking for most of the last 200 years. The reason? Global temperatures
dropped over the past 18 months. The global mean annual temperature has
been declining recently because the solar wind thrown out by the sun has
retreated to its smallest extent in at least 50 years.

Less ice in the Arctic in 1893 than today
14 Sep 08 – Lewis Gordon Pugh tried to paddle a kayak to the Pole
to demonstrate the vanishing Arctic ice. While still 600 miles short of
his goal, he met with ice so thick that he had to turn back. Conveniently
forgotten, is that in 1893 the Arctic was so ice-free that a Norwegian
explorer was able to kayak above 82 degrees north, 100 miles nearer
he Pole.

Alaska's Hubbard Glacier surging. Yakutat, Alaska. July 15, 2002. Bulldozing a gravel moraine in front of it, the Hubbard Glacier is advancing so rapidly that has nearly cut off Russell Fiord from Disenchantment Bay. The resulting ice and gravel dam is cutting off the supply of salt water, turning Russell Fiord into Russell Lake, endangering the small fishing village of Yakutat.
Russell "Lake" is now rising at the rate of six inches a day as freshwater from snowmelt and rainfall continues pouring in. Once the lake level rises to about 130 feet, it will begin spilling over into the nearby Situk River basin, flooding the usually tranquil stream. This would all but destroy the world-class salmon and steelhead fishing in the area, and devastate Yakutat's economy.
The Hubbard Glacier, 73 miles long and 6 miles wide at the face, is the largest tidewater glacier in North America.

Melting glacier 'false alarm.' Aug 22, 2002. News Telegraph. Pictures claiming to show how man-made global warming has caused Arctic glaciers to retreat are at best misleading, says leading glaciologist.
The pictures, which compared the size of a glacier on Svalbard in 1918 with its size in 2002, included the warning that global warming caused by man-made greenhouse gases was causing Arctic glaciers to melt.
Those assertions are misleading at best, says Professor Ole Humlum, a leading Norwegian glaciologist. "That glacier had already disappeared in the early 1920s," says Humlum. "[It disappeared] as a result of a perfectly natural rise in temperature that had nothing to do with man-made global warming." Extreme cold over South Pole reveals global warming models are wrong. Auckland (AFP) Sep 10, 2002. A discovery that it is much colder over the South Pole than believed has exposed a major flaw in the computer models used to predict global warming.
Scientists based at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station have found that it is 36 to 54 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 30 degrees C) colder than computer models showed.
The findings, by Chester Gardner, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Illinois, Weilin Pan, a doctoral student at Illinois, and Ray Roble of the US National Center for Atmospheric Research, published their findings in the American Geophysical Union Letters.
