The United States is nearly completely reliant on China for it’s supply of lifesaving antibiotics.

“The crucial ingredients for nearly all antibiotics, steroids and many other lifesaving drugs are now made exclusively in China,” The New York Times reported in the 32nd paragraph of a Friday article entitled “Medicines made in India set off safety worries.”

Indeed, 2014 marks the tenth anniversary of Bristol-Myers Squibb — the last American plant that manufactured the key ingredients for penicillin and other drugs — shuttering it’s upstate New York factory.

“Like other manufacturing operations, drug plants have been moving to Asia because labor, construction, regulatory and environmental costs are lower there,” the Times reported in 2009.

(CNN) -- If you feed your pet a jerky treat and it gets sick or dies, the Food and Drug Administration wants to hear from you.

The agency says it has reports of more than 3,600 dogs and 10 cats that got sick after eating jerky pet treats over the past six years and 580 of those pets have died. ...
"Most of the jerky treats implicated have been made in China," the FDA said on its website.

There's no difference between the standards of production and regulatory enforcement in the People's Republic and the West at all

Over 3,000 homeowners have reported that drywall imported from China has caused health problems and metal corrosion in their homes. The contaminated drywall has high levels of sulfur, which may be responsible for a rotten egg smell in affected homes, blackened or corroded pipes, failure of air conditioners and other household appliances, and health problems such as asthma, coughing, headaches, sore throats, and irritated eyes.

I'm just guessing, but most antibiotics sold in the USA have probably been Chinese for at least a decade. Since I haven't seen any news stories about massive outbreaks of plague and they're going ahead with closing that plant, I wouldn't worry too much.
