I need to buy my wife a new vehicle, probably a crossover SUV.

I was considering a Tesla given how my favorite maker, Toyota, have seen huge price increases in recent years... a new Rav4 can run 40k with decent features. I've seen Model Xs go for not much more than that and surely Model Xs are faster, sleeker, and my wife MIGHT prefer one over a Toyota.

That being said: I love Toyotas because they live up to their dependability hype. You buy them and spend money only on routine maintenance.

But what about for Teslas? I've heard a lot about them breaking down, etc., and being impossible to get fixed fast... is that just FUD?

Moreover, I've heard charging installation can cost 5-10k extra... that's sounds insane.

It’s the first time I’ve heard that but if people are experiencing that then I hope Tesla does something about it lol, I was thinking of eventually getting a Tesla one day myself I just like the idea of electronic cars.

I hear Toyota's and Subaru are pretty good these days, I would check them both out. I can however recommend avoiding Fords.

Yeah, I have a last gen Corolla. The only issue besides routine maintenance after 115k miles was the gas cap seal was leaking (didn't create a vapor seal, wasn't leaking fuel). That was a $150 repair. Other than that, she's been dependable.

One thing I do know I haven’t seen that many second hand Tesla’s around Australia, it’s honestly weird seeing every other brand but that.

I keep seeing things about certain features being hidden being paywalls. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, I think that would be a huge money pit. Imagine having to pay a subscription fee to keep using one of your car's features!

Always wanted one but if that’s the case it pushes me away from ever getting one.

I’m still yet to get my license I’m hoping next year but I’m aiming for a Honda or subaru now.

Good luck with your test! It will be interesting to hear your thoughts on it so we can compare the UK and US driving test.

A Subaru would be pretty cool!

It’s interesting that we all speak English but yet the roads are completely different!

A lot happened this year with ending connections with some people so it’s a perfect opportunity to focus on myself and thank you! :)

Yeah. It was crazy to find out that you guys can turn right at a red light. Personally think that would be chaotic over here.

We still have to use the give way rule to our right but besides that it’s crazy!

But somehow works out well :D
