I got dragged clawing walls to not have to go the opening of the cultural center for the Arts where the city of Orlando spent like 300 million dollars building this place for opera and musicals. That means I had to get dressed up which means anything more then a nice pair of jeans and polo shirt is really pushing my patients for likability.

So we get there and I have to admit for a 300 million dollar building it is pretty amazing to see at night
and inside is also just as grand. No wonder the valet parking is a stiff $25.00 to help pay off that place.

I would have much rather photographed the building with something other then my cell phone then go see PHANTOM OF THE OPERA for what was 3.5 hours.

Sadly, apparently PHANTOM OF THE OPERA has a intermission half way through it. I got excited thinking it is time to go home. I said a fake that was great and said lets get the cars! The horror on the wives faces saying no that was just the halfway intermission. I felt like I had gotten a stomach punch. Okay then lets get one of those overpriced alcoholic drinks to numb the pain for the next couple of hours I was thinking to myself.

All my wifes girlfriends were saying words like moving! Gave me goose bumps! The star she is gorgeous in those dresses! While two of the guys did not even give a hint of disliking it front of there wives. And the third gave the obvious guy look and nod of why can't we be at a sports bar or a monster truck jam rally! There are football games on dammit! I gave him the man nod back saying I understand my friend, I understand!

And all I gotta say is paying the $25.00 dollars for valet to get out of that place quickly was looking like it was worth every penny.

So are you cultured and enjoy these kinds of things?

$25.00 for VALET parking is stiff?
Wow, you really don't live in Melbourne.
We park our own damn cars and people have had to pay upto $75.00

(Parking here is a rip off)

Sounds a lovely night to me though. I love this kind of thing, but can never talk my wife into it - normally just go alone.

That's really stiff for here. This is the tourism capital of the world and prices are much friendlier for parking. If I would have parked myself it would have been 5 or 10 dollars.

Now do not get me wrong there is a lot of talent but it's just the kind of stuff that is complete torture for me. Awful music with a bunch of over dressed and uptight people is just not for me. It is a place for women to dress up and would bet 95% could not tell me the words to any of the opera voices singing. And I forgot to mention you can't bring any food in like you can in the movies. I brought m&m's in with me and you would have thought I committed a capital offense with the looks and scolding from the usher!

Tell you what you can take my wife the next time she wants to go, I am not the jealous type. LOL!

@TL: I feel your pain!

I would rather be in a sports bar or attending a monster truck jam rally. These types of 'fancy dress' and my ass hurting from sitting for 3.5 hours are not for me! :nono:

I actually don't mind those types of events, but I wouldn't want to go to a lot of them. Part of the appeal to me is that it isn't something I do everyday, and that makes it that little bit more interesting.

On another note, if anyone ever gets the chance to see Blood Brothers I'd highly recommend it - it is by far one of my favourite musicals.

My wife is though, so I'd get scolded for sure. :lol2:

You guys can BYO food at the movies? :scared2:
The differences in our two localities I'm learning...
(Everyone does it anyway, but.)
