Late last week, we heard in the news that Krispy Kreme Donuts (topic has no bearing to my profile name!) has gone into administration in Australia. KK was launched here probably about 18 months ago. There has been debate here that generally Australians are moving to a healthier way of eating and rediscovering their own kitchens. There has been a spate of cooking shows on here like Masterchef which apparently has driven people back to their ovens and stoves.

What is your attitude to fastfood? Is it just an occassional treat or a necessary part of a busy lifestyle?

Krispy Kreme went bankrupt here, and there are only three stores left, but they're directly US-controlled now.

Anyways, I worked for a fast food restaurant for 11 months, and I gained 30 pounds within the first two months. Let me tell you. Never eat Double Big Macs. But seriously, when you cook yourself with real food, it really makes a difference. I have since lost at least 25 of those pounds. The problem right now is not necessarily Fast Food itself, but it's the fact that people in the Western World is overdosing on the only three flavours of American cuisine (fat, sugar, salt) and underdosing on the essential stuff. That's why people are fat.

Oh, by the way, grocery stores aren't any better.

It's only a treat to me. It's cheaper for me to buy food and make my own dinner/tea at home.

I very rarely eat fastfood. I'm kind of leary as to who is making the food and how clean the kitchen area is. My attitude is I'd rather eat something that I know is healthy and not full of ingredients that I can't even pronounce let alone know what they are. It also makes me angry when I see parents taking their children into a fastfood place. For crap sake, are they that lazy to cook them a nice homemade meal? Not to mention the expense of eating out at these fastfood places and the rate of obesity climbing upwards.

To me it's a necessary part of my life. I'm so busy all the time I really just can't cook every day. I know it's not very healthy, but by exercising a lot it doesn't have much influence on my weight.

We just fry our own stuff, it's cheaper and probably healthier.

You shouldn't eat it every day of course...

I think fast food is easy, sometimes tasty, cheap and convenient. Which makes it very tempting for people who are in a lazy mood and/or tired from working/being too busy too much.

Its unhealthy and should only be consumed once in a while. <--- Easier said than done for people with busy lives or ... gluttons.

I used to eat it all the time. But I went to college and so far have been eating much healthier than normal.

I noticed rare weekends when I go home and my family has fast food, it makes me sick to my stomach now, I just can't eat fast food anymore without feeling awful afterwards.

Probably for good reason...
