Foxtel blames live television for model stuff-up

FOXTEL is blaming Sarah Murdoch's Australia's Next Top Model wrong winner announcement on the stresses of live television.

It is still a mystery how host Sarah Murdoch announced the wrong winner's name at the finale of the reality TV show but Foxtel insists it was an honest mistake.

In a live broadcast from Luna Park, host Murdoch appeared close to tears when she realised she had mistakenly announced Sydney girl Kelsey Martinovich as the winner.

The stunned Martinovich thanked her fellow contestants and the crowd before Murdoch had to take back her words and make an awkward apology and reveal the actual winner was 18-year-old Gold Coast contestant Amanda Ware.

As it turned out, she was given information that was written on a card in front of her off the stage,'' Jamie Campbell, director of publicity, told Sky News.

At the time she had previously been given the name Kelsey because earlier on in the night she was the first person to be put through after Sophie was eliminated. So in the heat of the moment on live TV with 2000 people in the audience, Kelsey's name was read out. And it was just the wrong name.''

Both girls were doing the media rounds on Wednesday morning and insist accusations the ordeal was a publicity stunt are absurd.

There's absolutely no way that this was a stunt because it was a genuine honest mistake and you saw the look on Sarah Murdoch's face, it was absolute devastation,'' winner Amanda Ware said.

Sarah Murdoch would never do that to anybody.''

Kelsey Martinovich says she felt more sorry for Murdoch than herself.

I just looked at Sarah and realised there'd been a big mistake and felt like I needed to give her a big hug or something,'' Kelsey said.

As for having the stuff-up explained to them, the models say they are still in the dark about the facts.

We're not particularly sure, they say it was a technical difficulty and that's all we've figured out,'' said Ware.

The girls briefly met up with Murdoch back stage and exchanged apologies.

She felt horrible, the fact that she had to deliver that news. Working with Foxtel, I know that they would never (purposely) put someone in that position,'' Amanda added.
