How would you feel if you joined a forum and every post you made you got this message:
This message is awaiting moderator approval

Would this turn you off from posting or would you not care and continue to post?

That's supposed to be a punishment for trouble makers. If you're doing that to ALL your members, you're doing your forum wrong. XD

Generalized moderator approval of course will scare me and other users away. I want my post to be shown right after clicking on submit, damnit!

It's like forums that await Administrator Approval. Most times, you never get approved. It's like...Do you not want members on your forum?

Admins usually do that when they can't keep control of spammers and spam bots. Gives them time to lookup a new potential member's IP address and email to see who they're dealing with. I've only seen it used temporarily, not as a permanent part of the registration process.

Yeah, but good forum software have plug-ins to deal with the bots. Like pruning users.

Maybe that's why you should never make a Zetaboards forum.:|

When they have this I try to post and post and post so it irritates the admin who has to approve all my posts lol

I have had this on so many occasions when posting on forums and it can get very annoying. I understand why they do it but to be honest I personally feel it only makes more work for the admins and moderators of the forum having to go through every post that is made rather than have someone keep an eye out for spam threads.

I joined a Stephen King discussion board a few years back and had that very thing happen to me. I sent a PM to the administrator and she said they went through a time where people were posting insulting things about King and passing on information that was completely wrong, starting nasty rumors and such. Having a moderator approve every post was their solution to that problem, which I told them totally sucked. Particularly when there is ONE moderator on the board. If she wasn't logged in your posts didn't go up. Stupid idea. Totally stupid.

I was bummed that I couldn't join the place as big a Stephen King fan as I am, but regardless, I would not put up with that crap. I was surprised there were so many regular members there! They had something like 700 members. I am not among that number any longer, obviously.

That sounds pretty messed up. Moderator approval is something I can understand for guest posts, new member posts, posts in controversial boards, etc., but forum wide is quite frankly ridiculous. With one moderator, I have to wonder how the place even could possibly stay active. :P

I hate forums that when you post it says This message is awaiting moderator approval.
If I find a forum like that I leave right away. I don't want too have to wait for my message too show up.
I found this very cool forum once. Debated on ages too join in. Was all excited when I joined. And then after the first three posts I got that message. I'm like screw it and never posted back.
It seems like a very cool community though. I debate trying it out again. I don't know if they still have the moderator approval posting thing though.

I like to read my posts after I hit submit and not being able to see it kind of messes with my head.
:panic:

I wouldn't mind if it happened on one post because I was new to the forum, but it would definitely put me off if it happened for every single post.

Now I can rest assured that you will never enable that here. :)

if that would be enabled with every post
its just horrible, no way that forum would become big lol

id know one anime related forum, im an active member there
that has this feature enabled but only on new threads that are created

i find it annoying, even if its just enabled on new thread creating
BUT id understand that if a forum is popular and a lot of new threads are made everyday that you do enable it
that way you have more control over the forums content and you can prevent spam topics to be posted

I can't stand forums like that. Places like that really turn me off. I would be done as soon as I started. People I know and even myself, never utilized those ridiculous features.

I would be deterred from posting if all of my posts needed moderator approval. It's just disappointing, and who knows when that moderator will actually approve my post, if at all. @_@
