Babies can be noisy. How do you feel when there is a crying baby near you? How do you think the baby's parents feel?

I start to think how glad I am to have dodged that bullet. As for parents... they brought it upon themselves. They wanted to have a child, so it's their problem, not mine.

one of my pet peeves is when a baby cries and the mom makes no attempt to stop them crying what so ever.

I used to know a mother, she had 5 kids, and her house was absolutely disgusting.

on top of broken drainage, dog pooh in the paddling pool where the kids played, food everywhere, clothes everywhere, unstable furniture (to the point it could just come crashing down on top of you), the mom had no control or say over the kids- if they wanted to start a fire in the garden and burn down houses, it was okay with her, just as long as she was watching the tv and eating chips.

where am I going with this?

her youngest kid, alisha, was barely 1 years old- and when she cried, the mom had absolutely no idea of how to care for her. she didn't have a baby bottle, she didn't have diapers, she didn't have a cot- most of the time alisha just crawled around the dirty floor naked (and that's just the youngest child!). I could share some stories...

anyway, back to the point in hand: baby crying annoys me. cute babies that smile and look up at you with their pretty faces are better.

It really depends on what is happening to determine what I would do. Some babies get colic and it's hard for them (and their parents!). There are certain holding positions that could help but not always, I tried them on my daughter and nothing relieved her.

If the baby is crying in church, sometimes just smiling at them will get them to stop.

Have you tried potty? ;) :p

Why would anyone bring a baby to the Church in the first place? They're too young to understand what's going on anyway.

Training. Kids need to be trained, even from early on so that they're comfortable with the social situations that the parents are 'into'. Same goes for "potty training" :) Itsa job!

Ah. Brainwashing by religious indoctrination. Gotta get 'em while they're young. Gotcha. ;)

I think 'Shut that brat up'. I don't like children at all.

Notsomuch that, I don't think that babies or even toddlers have the capacity to understand what's being said. Have you ever witnessed untrained small gangs of tiny hoodlums running through Walmart, sometimes other grocery stores, causing bedlam, ripping packages, smashing bread, helping themselves to the bananas, grapes, strawberries, etc? Parents talking on cellphones or otherwise oblivious?
Parents who enjoy attending church services regularly do like to try to teach their babies patience with sitting quietly for an hour or so in consideration of themselves and others. :)

Ah, I see. :)

Can't say I've noticed people here bringing their younglings to the Church for patience training, though. Here, it's mostly old folks coming to the Church for their own sake. :)

I get mad at the parents when they don't take care of it. Like when I am a restaurant or the movie theater and they just let their baby cry and cry without doing anything about it. They need to take that kid outside and comfort them or something (thats what I did when my kid was a baby).

We bring our children to church so they can be fed on God's Word. I can remember being 2 years old and sitting out on my front porch with a gospel church across the street (it was for the black community and back in the 60s whites and blacks were segregated) and loved hearing the songs they were singing. Even from that early age God was reaching me and teaching me about Him.

You remember things from when you were 2 years old?

I sure as hell don't.

My earliest memory is of my 4th birthday party. I remember I had a birthday cake with a red baseball cap on it made of icing, or something like that.
