Banning smartphones at schools?

Yes I think they should be banned. They are a distraction and also kids should be learning how to engage with other humans so when they are on a recess or lunch period, they should be interacting with other kids instead of staring at their phone screens.
Is that what you would do if you were a teacher?

I find it interesting how mobile phone users refuse to turn the damn things off when asked to, or at least put them in the silent mode and not use them until it's appropriate to use them, like after the class.

Maybe wait til the kids' neckbones set in a bent position. THEN ban them.
When my kid has had a problem with that she has 'confiscated' said phone until the end of the day. I like that idea.
I expect that in some countries what this Thai teacher did here is okay; maybe Thailand...I don't know.
Having grown up in the 90s and early 00s when cell phones were new and basic, cell phones weren't a huge issue in my school. Kids had them, and had them taken away for texting in class, but it wasn't a widepsread problem. In the modern area where smart phones exist, kids having phones in school can be a cancer. Why focus on the teacher and boring lecture when you have the internet in your hands? Why focus on learning when you can just Google it?
Regarding the actual topic, someone else made a valid point that phones at school are needed, especially now with everything going on. While I'd prefer smart phones be banned from schools outright, for safety, I think it's more logical to restrict them to your locker. From the moment you step into the building till the final bell, your phone stays in your locker. You don't need it in the classroom.
In general, I'd rather kids not have smart phones at all. They don't need 'em.
