Pretty simple one I suppose. Are beauty contests harmful, and is it bad for a society to put an emphasis on personal beauty?

I feel sorry of all those kids in beauty pageants. Their parents are wacky and teach them at a young age that appearance means everything.

Feel the same way about adult pageants? I couldn't agree with you more on your last post, though.

I don't like to tell people what to do, so I'd rather let beauty contests continue, BUT at the same time . . . .

They are so shallow and it's hard enough sometimes as a woman to be viewed as anything else, but a body. Whether you're pretty or not as a woman is how other people will judge you and honestly how you will often judge yourself. If you're ugly, you won't try to get better things in life or treat yourself as well because you feel that your looks define what your station in life is.

And I just hate how the world is that way, especially since, a lot of men are not judged in this same manner and I find it to be sexist, but since looks are the first thing you see when you meet someone and anyone can hide the depths of their personality (both the good and the bad) from anyone else and it takes a long time to really understand someone according to their personality, I do understand why people often judge based on looks.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

So do you think they should allow beauty contests then? No? Because beauty's perception varies?

I still say it is the adult's decision what they want to do with their life. If that's the road they want to take so be it.

What he's trying to say is that everyone's view of what's beautiful is different so just because one person says you are ugly, that don't mean you aren't beautiful in another person's eyes.

Don't put one person's opinoin of beauty over another because they are all equal which means no one person opinion is more important nor should it be viewed as the more correct one.

everything is worse for women than it is for men... I mean, stuff like this! and when a man does something and a woman does the same thing it's wrong. if a woman sleeps around she's a whore. if a man sleeps around he's a stud. it's just not fair!
