In a statement posted on Salafist websites Sunday, an ISIL spokesman named the group’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, caliph of a new entity that is meant to replicate the seventh century Rashidun Caliphate ruled by the Prophet Muhammad’s successors — a longtime dream of the global Salafist movement.

“He is the imam and khalifah [caliph] for the Muslims everywhere,” Abu Muhammad al-Adnani said in the statement, which was translated into several languages in a nod to the group’s international recruiting aims. “It is incumbent upon all Muslims to pledge allegiance to [him] and support him … The legality of all emirates, groups, states and organizations becomes null by the expansion of the khalifah’s authority and arrival of its troops to their areas.”

BAGHDAD: Islamic State militants have killed at least 500 members of Iraq's Yazidi minority in northern Iraq, burying some of their victims alive and kidnapping hundreds of women, a Baghdad government minister said on Sunday.

The insurgents' advance through northern Iraq has forced tens of thousands to flee, threatened the capital of the Kurdish autonomous region and provoked the first US air strikes in the area since Washington withdrew troops from Iraq in 2011.

Iraq's human rights minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani told Reuters that he had evidence that the Sunni militants had thrown the Yazidi dead into mass graves, adding that some of those buried alive were women and children. About 300 women had been forced into slavery, he said.

France will supply arms to Iraq's Kurds "in the coming hours", French President Francois Hollande has announced.

France has received approval from authorities in Baghdad for the decision, French media reports say.

Kurdish forces are fighting militants from the Islamic State (IS) group. Thousands of members of the Yazidi sect have fled the IS advance.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron says an international plan is being drawn up to rescue the stranded Yazidis.

He says the UK will play a role in the mission, the details of which "are now being put in place".

Islamic State militants today 'massacred' more than 300 Yazidi men - just one day after allegedly killing 82 others who refused to convert to Islam.

The insurgents stormed into the small village of Kocho in northern Iraq, where they spent five days trying to persuade villagers to take up their religion, local officials said.

When they refused, 82 male members of the ancient sect were reportedly rounded up and shot dead yesterday, while more than 100 women and girls were kidnapped.

And today, a further 312 Yazidis were allegedly murdered and their families abducted.

ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant), the Islamic State, the Islamic Caliphate, and so on are all one in the same.

They have been around for some time, and were affiliated with Al Queda.

Since they've become a regional power and have taken significant ground in the area, and their methods have become even more extreme, the main branch of Al Queda has stepped back from direct support or endorsement of them.

Just what ISIS's being disowned by Al Queda means is an open question

However, the groups own plans are quite clear, they plan on solidifying their grip on their state, and then using it as a base to continue the war against the West, and especially, America.
