This was a super big issue for me as a teenager. I'd be staff on way too many forums and some cases I'd be demodded due to inactivity or the site just randomly shuts down. I try not to do that anymore as an adult! I had a bunch of time back as a teenager before I got my first job thanks to my school. I have all the time even now as an adult who sadly doesn't work due to disability reasons.

Has anyone here ever been staff on a lot of forums? How'd you manage it? Did you get demodded for inactivity?

I try not to be staff on too many forums, but I had this problem when I first started getting into forums. I thought to myself "Yeah I can handle this!" yeah that didn't work out to well. :\ I don't want to let others down or ruin their trust. Right now I'm only staff on one forum, and that's Forum Promotion. I was staff shortly on another forum but it recently shut down. I'm also staff on a discord server, but it's because I was a judge for the Sonic hacking contest this year. (Judges get moderator permissions, but we have moderators on the server.)

I want to say FP and this forum are my top priority anymore.

Oh absolutely been there and done that! I have a bad habit of trying to be helpful wherever I go, and a lot of times I'll be asked to help or to join the staff, and I've learned as time goes on not to say yes to everyone that offers, but I would get myself so stretched thin I couldn't focus on one forum. Awful

Staffing is time consuming. I don't enjoy doing it like I used to. If you agree to it and the owner makes you a mod, you should honor it by being active. In some cases when I couldn't or didn't want to remain active on their forum, I'd ask to be un-staffed.

For most of my forum career I've never been staff on any forums (except being Admin on my own forum of course). Several years ago I was a moderator on Forum Promotion and I rejoined the mod squad again there a few months ago. So being staff on 2 forums is my max.

Leader of said mod squad, don't be shy about that ;)

There has been a couple forums that have made me staff against my will. No joke. I had to tell them that I was flattered but I just didnt have the time. When they give you admin powers, removing yourself from the staff is easy to do on your own. When they make you a moderator, you have to tell them to take you off the team and thats always an awkward conversation.

Yeah, I've had that happen, as well! It's definitely awkward! It's nice that they have sort of a viewpoint about you, but...ask!

I just joined a forum and never aspired to become a staff. I have an active job that keeps me busy.

Fortunately I've never been active on such a large number of forums at one time to even get the opportunity to be in too many staff roles, with the highest I've ever had being three at once.

Aside from one other forum, I just staff my own forums. I don't care to be a member of other forums, in fact, I enjoy it, but I'd rather not be a staff member.

That's more responsibility than I wish to have.

I think though, if I wasn't a forum owner myself, I'd have more time for it.
